CAE has been selected to supply electric plant control systems for the largest and most advanced warship in naval history, the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77), as well as for the U.S. Navy’s latest LPD 17 class amphibious ship, the USS New York (LPD 21). The total value of these contracts is approximately C$12 million. CAE will provide prime contractor Northrop Grumman Newport News with computer-based control system technology for the USS George H.W. Bush. CAE has been selected to supply shipboard control systems for the fifth in a series of KDX-II class destroyers for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). List price for similar repeat business is approximately $C6 million. The complete system will be delivered in 2005. This contract, awarded by prime contractor Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME), marks the tenth selection of CAE's integrated platform management system (IPMS) for the ROKN. Since 2000, DSME and CAE have collaborated on two other KDX-II vessels. "The DSME shipyard and the ROKN are longstanding customers, and this contract certainly reinforces CAE's position as a key supplier," said Rashid Khan, CAE's executive vice-president for marine control systems.

CAE has been selected to provide display replacements and perform a supportability study for the CAE-developed Integrated Machinery Control System (IMCS) aboard the Canadian Navy's Halifax class Canadian Patrol Frigates. The value of the contract is approximately C$4 million. In addition to replacing IMCS console displays with state-of-the-art, high-resolution flat panels, CAE will be conducting a supportability study to analyze future IMCS support and upgrade requirements for the 12 Halifax class frigates. Supportability studies are integral to the Navy's equipment life- cycle management, determining when, where and how equipment is maintained, repaired or upgraded over its useful life.

CAE announced it has become an exclusive partner in the Thales CVF team's bid to build two 50,000-ton aircraft carriers for the U.K. Royal Navy. The Thales CVF team is one of two competitors expecting a decision on their contract bid by the end of this year. As part of the Thales CVF team, CAE's mandate includes integration of the carriers' platform management systems into ship data transport infrastructure. Platform management components will be supplied through open competition managed by CAE.
