Metal Shark Delivers Two Fireboats to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue

Shipbuilder Metal Shark has delivered two of three new welded-aluminum “50 Defiant” monohull pilothouse fireboats to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR).Designed by Metal Shark’s in-house engineering team and built to Lloyds Registry Standard, the welded-aluminum monohull pilothouse fireboats “FB-21” and “FB-73” were acquired to boost MDFR’s maritime firefighting capability and will replace existing vessels in its fleet.Compared to MDFR’s outgoing vessels, the new 55’ x 17.5’ Metal Shark fireboats offer faster speeds enabling shorter response times…

However readers might define “normal”, 2020 was anything but. But the business of rigid inflatable boats (RIB) has been going at full throttle.Matthew Velluto, Director of Business Development and Marketing at RIBCRAFT USA, based in Marblehead, Mass., described a business moving steadily ahead, though it’s had to weave and bob at times during 2020. “We’ve been able to stay open throughout 2020, with no disruptions on our side,” though he acknowledged hiccups further down in the company’s supply chain. He explains that the business was deemed to be “essential”.

RIBCRAFT Wins Multiple Contracts

Having recently taken delivery of two new RIBCRAFT 5.85 rigid inflatable boats (RIB), the California Department of Fish and Wildlife awarded the Massacusetts-based builder another contract, to supply and deliver shipboard RIBs for its fleet of long range fisheries patrol boats.The RIBs already delivered will be used by the agency's Southern District, which covers all of Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles and San Diego counties. The vessels will be operated by one or two wardens for patrol and enforcement operations.

Brunswick Launches Aluminum RHIB Line

At the first day of the International WorkBoat Show in New Orleans, La., Brunswick Commercial & Government Products (BCGP) introduced an 8.5-meter aluminum RHIB. A first of its kind for the Company, the 850 Aluminum Impact RHIB is the introductory model from a line-up that features five variants ranging in size from 7.5-meters to 12-meters. Designed for the commercial and government marketplace, BCGP will market the new line-up to domestic law enforcement agencies as well as militaries worldwide. Nine new vessels designed by race boat driver and designer Fabio Buzzi and fully equipped with Raymarine electronics, have been delivered to the Guardia di Finanza, the militarized customs and border patrol service responsible for preventing financial crime and smuggling in Italy. The nine boats were officially handed over to the Guardia di Finanza at a ceremony attended by the Italian Minister of the Interior Roberto Maroni. FB Design utilises Fabio Buzzi’s expertise to create high speed patrol boats.

VT Halmatic has delivered an Arctic 24 rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to the island of Tristan da Cunha. Located in the South Atlantic, approximately 1,740 miles west of Cape Town, Tristan da Cunha is acknowledged as the world's most remote inhabited island. The island supports a thriving community concentrating on fishing and agriculture and the new RIB joins an existing VT Halmatic Pacific 38 RIB. The new Arctic 24 will be used as an additional fisheries patrol boat and fast rescue craft as well as search and rescue and policing duties. Based on a deep V hull form, the Arctic 24 is known as an off-shore RIB that is available in the market place and is capable of operating in the extreme sea states found around the island.
