Electric Boat Awarded $251 Mln US Navy Contracts

The U.S. Navy has awarded Groton, Conn. submarine builder General Dynamics Electric Boat two contracts worth $251 million combined.The first is a $215.7 million modification to a previously awarded contract, the cumulative value of which, if all options are exercised, could be more than $1 billion. GD Wins $24 mln for Submarine Planning

The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $24.1 million contract modification to perform reactor-plant planning yard services for nuclear submarines and support-yard services for moored training ships. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). Initially awarded in November 2011, the contract has a potential cumulative value of $121.2 million through 2016 if all options are exercised and funded. Most of the work will be performed in Groton, with the remainder taking place in Charleston, S.C., where the moored training ships are based.

General Dynamics: $19M for Sub Planning Services

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat an $18.9 million contract modification to perform reactor-plant planning yard services for nuclear submarines and support-yard services for moored training ships. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). Initially awarded in November 2011, the contract has a potential value of $121.2 million through 2016 if all options are exercised. Most of the work will be performed in Groton, with the remainder taking place in Charleston, S.C., where the moored training ships are based. This work will engage Electric Boat’s engineering and design organization, which comprises more than 4,400 employees.

General Dynamics Awarded Navy Nuclear Propulsion Contract

Amongst the latest Ministry of Defense, Navy, contracts, General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn., is awarded an $18,195,519 cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-12-C-2100) for reactor plant planning yard services for nuclear-powered submarines and support yard services for the Navy's moored training ships. The contract requires General Dynamics to furnish, fabricate, or acquire such materials, supplies and services as may be necessary to perform the functions of the planning yard for reactor plants and associated portions of the propulsion plants for nuclear powered submarines. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent), and Charleston, S.C. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2014.

Electric Boat: $21.1m Navy Deal

General Dynamics Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $21,133,458 cost-plus, fixed-fee level-of-effort contract for reactor plant planning yard services for nuclear-powered submarines and support yard services for the Navy's moored training ships. The contract includes options, which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to $121,207,572. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent), and Charleston, S.C. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2014.Contract funds in the amount of $16,918,893 are obligated on this award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-12-C-2100).

New Navy Contract

General Dynamics Electric Boat, Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $14,552,039 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-07-C-2103) for reactor plant planning yard services for nuclear-powered submarines and support yard services for the Navy's moored training ships. The contractor will furnish, fabricate or acquire such materials, supplies and services as may be necessary to perform the functions of the planning yard for reactor plants and associated portions of the propulsion plants for nuclear powered submarines. This contract will be incrementally funded with $9,459,707 to be obligated at the time of award. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent), and Charleston, S.C. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2011.

General Dynamics Submarine Support Work

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat $61.8m to extend two existing contracts for submarine modernization and maintenance and reactor-plant planning yard work. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). Under a $43.7m modification, Electric Boat will continue to perform non-nuclear submarine modernization and repair services at the Naval Submarine Support Facility in Groton in support of submarines, the Shippingport floating dry-dock as well as support and service craft. This is a modification to a five-year contract initially awarded in October 2006 that has a total potential value of $201.8m if all options are exercised and funded. About 270 Electric Boat employees are engaged in the work.

Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $16,159,441 modification to previously awarded contract (for Reactor Plant Planning Yard services for nuclear-powered submarines and support yard services for the Navy's moored training ships. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent) and Charleston, S.C. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2008. Contract funds in the amount of $16m will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

Navy Awards Multiple Nuclear Propulsion Contracts

According to reports, the U.S. Navy has awarded over $1b in contracts related to naval nuclear propulsion. On October 17, Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. in Schenectady, NY received a $267.5mcost-plus-fixed fee contract for naval nuclear propulsion components, raising its contracts awarded to $442.2 million total since Oct 1/06. Work will be performed in Pittsburgh, PA (52%) and Schenectady, NY (48%). The contract was not competitively procured (N00024-07-C-2101). On October 16, Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc. in Schenectady, NY received a $44.8m cost-plus-fixed fee contract for naval nuclear propulsion components, which can be added to the Oct. 12, 2006 award to get a total of $174.7 million. Work will be performed in Schenectady, NY.

The contractor will furnish, fabricate, or acquire such materials, supplies and services as may be necessary to perform the functions of the planning yard for reactor plants and associated portions of the propulsion plants for nuclear powered submarines. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn. (95 percent) and Charleston, S.C. (5 percent), and is expected to be completed by September 2007. Contract funds in the amount of $18,733,261, will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was not competitively procured.
