Wärtsilä and GTT finalized a cooperation agreement at the Marintec conference and exhibition in Shanghai, China on December 5. The aim of the cooperation is to explore potential business opportunities in the marine sector in relation to liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage, fuel gas supply systems and associated services that will benefit both shipyards and vessel owners. Wärtsilä has experience and in-house expertise in LNG fuel gas applications, as well as gas carrier process know-how, while GTT has capabilities in developing cryogenic membrane containment solutions. By collaborating in the delivery of jointly agreed projects, the two companies will be able to propose solutions that optimize onboard LNG fuel gas storage and operations.

Finnish marine engineering company Norsepower Oy Ltd. announced that it will bring to the commercial maritime market an auxiliary wind propulsion solution aimed at maximizing cargo ship fuel efficiency, with first sea tests on a Finnish cargo ship slated to begin later this year. Unitor's 4,500 international shipping customers now have a ready made solution for e-commerce procurement available. The solution makes it possible to electronically purchase Unitor products and services from vessels at sea or from the owner's office. Unitor and SpecTec's free and independent marine procurement portal, e4marine, has now opened the industry's first vessel-based e-commerce procurement solution following trials with the Baltic ferry operator Silja Line. After evaluating the e4marine solution, Silja Line went "live" by ordering marine chemicals and refrigerant gases for its flagship, the 59,912 grt passenger RoRo Silja Europa, running between Stockholm (Sweden) and Turku (Finland) from the vessel, via e4marine, to Unitor.
