Bulk Jupiter Search and Rescue Ongoing

No new crewmembers or debris from the sunken vessel Bulk Jupiter have been detected during the recent search operations, ship’s owner Gearbulk Holding Limited reported. A fleet of vessels and planes, under direction of the Vietnamese Coast Guard are participating in the operations from where Bulk Jupiter issued distress signals. The Gearbulk vessel Sunbird Arrow is also assisting the SAR operation. A representative from Gearbulk's Bergen office has travelled to Vung Tao, Vietnam, where the surviving Cook and the bodies of the two deceased arrived yesterday. The cook was initially shielded from the public and taken to a hospital for appropriate medical attention before he was able to meet with authorities.

Coast Guard members of the 11th Coast Guard District participated in a joint two-day search and rescue exercise, SAREX, with members of the Mexican navy's Search and Rescue Station in Ensenada, Mexico Wednesday and Thursday. The visit included a flag officer professional exchange, presentations highlighting each country's search and rescue capabilities, and a multiple-scenario tabletop exercise requiring joint coordination and response. Lifejacket Whistles Save Lives in Sunda Strait Rescue

AMSA officials congratulate captain & crew of a container ship on their rescue of 15 asylum-seekering survivors from a Sunda Strait casualty. The APL Bahrain recovered 15 survivors following the sinking of a passenger vessel on 29 August 2012 off the southern Sunda Strait, including six people who were rescued in the dark. The vessel also acted as on scene coordinator for much of the operation, coordinating up to five merchant ships and aircraft over two days. CG Accepts New Rescue 21 System in Charleston

The Coast Guard formally accepted and introduced its new Rescue 21 advanced communications system at a ceremony aboard Coast Guard Sector Charleston Monday, June 14. This new capability increases the Coast Guard’s ability to execute all its missions, especially its search and rescue mission, with greater agility and efficiency. “Rescue 21’s direction-finding capabilities provide lines of bearing to the source of the transmission and enable watchstanders to more accurately direct response assets to the distressed mariner,” said Michael Tangora, Coast Guard Deputy Assistant Commandant for Acquisition. Tangora cited two recent search-and-rescue missions which were successful because of Rescue 21’s advanced capabilities.
