Zeaborn: 100 vessels to be EU Hazardous Compliant

Germany’s Zeaborn Ship Management has contracted Verifavia Shipping and the Korean Register (KR) to perform inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) preparation and certification for over 100 vessels.The vessels are managed by Zeaborn Ship Management, a consolidation of E.R. Schiffahrt and Rickmers Shipmanagement, and must be IHM compliant to meet the terms of the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR) and the Hong Kong (HK) International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.The HK Convention is aimed at reducing the negative impact of ship recycling on human health and safety, and on the environment. IRClass Enhances Asia Pacific Presence

IRClass Opens Office in Saudi Arabia

The classification society Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), has made significant inroads into the Middle East market, following the announcement in October on its plans to further strengthen its footprint in the region.IRClass said in a press release that it has received authorisation as a Recognised Organisation (RO) from The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan – opening doors of opportunities of shipping companies to the classification society.Further, IRClass has also received authorisation as RO from the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Port and Maritime Authority. With these two key recognitions in the region, IRClass is now recognised by 41 flags worldwide.IRClass has recently set up an office in Dammam, KSA to expand its reach and serve the region better.

IRClass Gets Authorisation from Malta

In yet another demonstration of its growing global recognition, Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), a leading classification society, has received authorisation as a Recognised Organisation (RO) from Merchant Shipping Directorate of Transport, Malta. Malta is the sixth largest flag in the world and largest in Europe with a tonnage of 72.1 Million GT. This year, IRClass has earned a spate of authorisations from various flags worldwide, including US Coast Guard, Latvia, Antigua & Barbuda, Thailand and Bangladesh. Moreover, IRClass has set up its offices in Malta & Istanbul. With offices already established in London, Piraeus and a representative office in Cyprus, IRClass can provide better services to its European customers.

ClassNK e-Certificate Approved for Use by Leading Flag States

Classification society ClassNK has expanded the scope of the world’s first comprehensive electronic certificate service for classification and statutory certificates to include the flag states of Panama, Singapore and the Marshall Islands from September 15, 2017. The service, ClassNK e-Certificate, currently available to Liberian-flagged vessels, will be available to ClassNK-registered vessels from a total of four flag states, accounting for approximately 60 percent of vessels on the ClassNK register. ClassNK e-Certificate is the result of an innovative project aimed at reducing the workload on board and at shore by minimizing potential clerical errors and time-loss associated with paper burden.

IRClass Appointed RO for Iran; opens office in Tehran

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has received authorisation as a Recognised Organisation from Iran’s maritime administration – Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO). Strengthening its presence further in the Middle East, IRClass has also set up an office in Tehran to offer its services to the Iranian maritime sector. This move is the latest in a series of steps taken by IRClass to enhance its global footprint. The RO agreement was signed on Sunday, 5th February 2017 at a ceremony held in Tehran, Iran by Mr. Mohammad Rastad, Member of the Board of Directors and Deputy Managing Director for Maritime Affairs, on behalf of the PMO and Mr. Suresh Sinha, Managing Director of IRClass. “The Middle East is a key focus market and we see significant potential for growth.

IRClass Authorised RO for Oman, Nigeria, Lebanon flags

Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass), has obtained authorisation to act as ‘Recognised Organisation’ (RO), to carry out statutory survey, audit and certification on behalf of Nigeria, Oman and Lebanon flag states. With this developmental progress to-date, IRClass has been approved as a RO by 29 flag registries across the globe. The Middle East and Africa, among the fastest growing regions in the world, is a key gateway into the region for IRClass. Nigeria, Oman and Lebanon all have important maritime links to the Middle East. Nigeria with a strong oil and gas presence, is the largest economy in Africa, while Oman has a history of significant trade in maritime, which dates back to more than a millennium.

IRS Approved RO by Bahama Flag

Indian Register of Shipping is pleased to announce that it has obtained authorisation to act as ‘Recognised Organisation’ & ‘Recognised Security Organisation’ to carry out statutory survey, audit and certification of Bahamian ships and audit and certification of Companies operating Bahamian ships. This recognition reflects the increasing acceptance of IRClass by all major Maritime Administrations all over the world and is indicative of the progress made by IRClass in its efforts to internationalise and embrace new markets. With this development, IRClass is now approved as a ‘Recognised Organisation’ by 25 countries apart from India. Bahamas is amongst the top 6 flag states in the world with more than 56 Million GT.

UK Detains 8 Foreign Vessels in November

The U.K.’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that eight foreign flagged ships were under detention in U.K. ports during November 2014 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection. During November, there were six new detentions of foreign flagged vessels in a U.K. port. Two vessels remained under detention from previous months, and five vessels were released during November. A total of three vessels remain under detention at the end of November. Company: - Omicron Ship Management Inc. This vessel was still detained at November 30, 2014.

Ten Ships Detained in the UK in May

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) announced that ten foreign flagged ships were under detention in UK ports during May 2014 after failing Port State Control (PSC) inspection. During May, there were four new detentions of foreign flagged vessels in UK ports. Six vessels remained under detention from previous months. Five vessels were released during May. A total of five vessels remain under detention at the end of May. 1. In response to one of the recommendations of Lord Donaldson's Inquiry into the prevention of pollution from merchant shipping and in compliance with the EU Directive on Port State Control (2009/16/EC as amended), the Maritime and Coastguard agency (MCA) publishes details of the foreign flagged vessels detained in UK ports each month.

DNV Authorized to Survey Japanese-flagged Vessels

Classification society DNV has been designated as a 'Recognized Organization' by the Japanese government. A year ago Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) was similarly designated as a 'Recognised Organisation' by the Norwegian government and was granted delegated responsibility for statutory surveys and permission to issue statutory certificates. The agreement authorized ClassNK to examine compliance to various treaties of Norwegian-flagged vessels and issue certificates for ships registered under its flag. The ceremony was held at the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Director General of the Maritime Bureau, Mr Masato Mori presented the official certificate of registration to Henrik O. Madsen, CEO of the DNV Group.

12 months until the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 comes into force. On 20 August, 2012, the Philippines ratified the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006. Thirty members of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), with a total share in the world gross tonnage of ships of more than 33 per cent, have now ratified the Convention. RINA Tops Paris MOU Performance List

International classification society RINA has been recognized by the Paris MOU as the best performing Recognised Organisation in 2009.  At its 43rd meeting the Paris MOU Committee approved the 2009 Port State Control inspection results for ships and adopted new performance lists for Flag States and Recognised Organizations. These lists take effect from 1 July 2010 and show RINA as having the best performance in the high quality section of the list of classification societies.

Lloyd’s Register Admitted to USCG’s Alternate Compliance Program

Lloyd’s Register has been authorized to participate in the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) Alternate Compliance Program (ACP), which enables it to act as a recognised organisation (RO) for US-flagged vessels, capable of verifying compliance with United States design and inspection requirements and issuing statutory certificates. David Moorhouse, Executive Chairman of Lloyd’s Register and RADM Thomas Gilmour, Assistant Commandant for Marine Safety, Security and Environmental Protection, USCG, today signed the agreement at Lloyd’s Register’s London Office. The technical annex to the agreement was signed by Joseph Angelo, Director of Standards, USCG and Alan Gavin, Marine Director, Lloyd’s Register.
