Marine electronics group Navico, a literal ‘house of brands’ for the recreational, sail, power and commercial marine markets, is making a strong push in the commercial sector with its Simrad brand. The ascension of Navico in recreational marine electronics business – an estimated $1 billion market globally – was fast and furious, growing from roughly 7% of the global market in 2005 to nearly 30% in 2007, standing steady at about 35% today, fueled by a strategy built on the acquisition of strong brands mixed with organic growth.

Navico Reports 2012 Profitability and Market Share
Navico — selling under the Lowrance, Simrad and B&G brands — announced its operational performance results for the fourth quarter and the year ending December 31, 2012. Revenue in the fourth quarter increased by 27% compared to the same period in 2011, ending the year on the same strong note as earlier quarters in 2012. Overall, the revenues for the year were up 15% to MUSD 256.0 in a flat market. This resulted in Navico increasing its global market share by around 4 percentage points, which further strengthens its position as the undisputed leader in recreational marine electronics. Kane Appointed Pres. of Rolls-Royce Marine Electrical Systems Division
Rick Kane has been appointed as President of Rolls-Royce's new Marine Electrical Systems business. Kane was formerly President and Chief Executive of Raymarine Ltd, created when he led the management buy-out of Raytheon's recreational marine electronics business.A graduate in business studies from Suffolk University, Boston, MA, Kane initially spent nine years as a Supply Corp officer with the United States Navy before commencing his industrial career as a consultant with KPMG. Subsequently he has gained senior management experience in a number of companies including General Electric (aerospace), Ingersoll-Rand (construction and mining) and Raytheon (aerospace and marine).
