Algoma Fined for US Dumping Violations

Canadian shipping company Algoma Central Corporation was fined $500,000 in the U.S. after pleading guilty to dumping wastewater into Lake Ontario.One of the Great Lakes operator's dry bulk carriers, the Algoma Strongfield, was built in China and delivered to Canada on May 30, 2017, by a crew from Redwise Maritime Services, B.V., a vessel transport company based in the Netherlands.During the delivery voyage, while manned by a Redwise crew, the oily water separator and oil content monitor malfunctioned or failed on multiple occasions, which resulted in an accumulation of unprocessed oily bilge water. SAAM Towage to Receive Two New Tugs for El Salvador

SAAM Towage said it will soon take delivery of two new vessels, SAAM Acaxual and SAAM Centzunat, built by Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar to provide services at the Energía del Pacífico (EDP) liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in El Salvador.The new RAstar 3200W tugs measure 32 meters long and were especially designed by Robert Allan Ltd. to meet the needs of the Acajutla gas terminal, with bollard pull of more than 80 tons and a speed of over 13.5 knots.Each vessel has two CAT 3516C 2350 kW engines and Kongsberg US255 FP azimuth thrusters.Their design features…

Seaspan Ferries' First LNG-fueled Vessel Arrives

Seaspan Ferries Corporation (SFC) announced the arrival of the Seaspan Swift, the first of two new dual-fuelled/hybrid diesel, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and battery ferries to its fleet. The new state-of-the-art vessel, currently docked at the SFC Tilbury Terminal in Delta, arrived after an eight-week journey that spanned a total of 10,661 nautical miles following its construction at Sedef Shipyard in Istanbul, Turkey. First VectRA 3000 Tug Delivered

Sanmar’s first VSP (Voith Schneider Propeller) tug, of the new VectRA 3000 series, named Arie A has been constructed for Italian operator Tripmare Spa of Trieste. The vessel has been delivered by a Redwise crew to Ashdod Port, located some 40 kilometers south of Tel Aviv where it will operate. Particular care and attention has been given to the ergonomics of the wheelhouse and the habitability of the crew accommodation, the builder said. VectRA 3000 series has been designed by the Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd.

Redwise Delivers Two Dredgers to Singapore

Redwise delivers two dredgers to Singapore – one from the east, one from the west. The newly built TSHD Barito Equator was delivered by Redwise to Singapore in the first week of May 2015. Built by the Damen Shipyard at Pontianak, she followed strait on the heels of the THSD Moniflor built 2000 by IHC in The Netherlands for the French government. The Moniflor was Eastbound, with a passage via Las Palmas, Walvis Bay and Mauritius the long way round. The Barito Equator headed Westward, departing   from Pontianak, Indonesia with very fine weather.

Power and Endurance Ready for Austrailian Waters

Wamalhanha is the final newbuild in a series of six tugs of the Robert Allan Design, RAstar 3200 where her main duties will be terminal activities, escort duties, ship assist, towage duties. She was named on September 24, 2014 at UZMAR Workboat and Tug Factory for delivery. Rio Tinto owns six vessels in this series, these arePilbara Apollo, Kashima, Matsuzaka, Barrura, Gurrgura and Wamalhanha.These vessels have been adapted to requirements for the work in Australian Iron Ore Terminals including power and improved NOx and SOx reduction for the exhaust emissions.

Redwise Report Recent Vessel Delivery Voyages

An OSV, a dredger and a landing craft have been recently added to the Dutch vessel delivery firm Redwise’s track record of completed ocean passages. The newly built landing craft  “ESNAAD 1010” of 1.334 gt and installed propulsion power of 1696 BHP was successfully delivered on her maiden passage during the monsoon season from the Sealink Yard at Miri (Malaysia) to Abu Dhabi (UAE). The newly built Offshore Support Vessel “OCEAN STAR”, departed from the yard at Guangzhou (China) on May 15th heading for her new homeport Dos Bocas (Mexico).

Ocean Star

Redwise reported the successful repositioning of three ships globally, relocating an OSV, a dredger and a landing craft. The offshore support vessel Ocean Star, departed from the yard at Guangzhou, China on May 15 heading for her new homeport Dos Bocas, Mexico. The route took the vessel via great circle route across the Pacific Ocean to Panama Canal. Ocean Star safely arrived on the Caribbean side of Mexico on July 20 after a maiden voyage covering 10,676 nautical miles. The well-maintained and sturdy 1975 built dredger Sand Weaver  recently departed from the U.K. port of Swansea.

Redwise Delivers the Long Way to Avoid Piracy

The piracy threat around the Gulf of Aden has been in the news for quite some time, and continues to make headlines with every next incident that occurs. Besides the dozens of pirate encounters, there are also many cases where ship owners and maritime service providers, or their officers and crew, do all they can to prevent hijackings. Preventive measures include alternative routes thousands of miles longer, just to stay clear from pirate activity, or careful planning and consultation to ensure escorts and other safety precautions.
