Hapag-Lloyd Splits EU Ops into Two Regions

Cargo container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd has is to split its European operations into northern and southern regions. The company said the move was part of its strategy to remain closely connected with international clients. After the reorganization, Hapag-Lloyd will serve its customers from a total of six regions.The new Region South Europe will be headquartered in Genoa, Italy to reinforce the company’s activities in the Mediterranean region. Hapag-Lloyd Splits European Services

German-based  cargo container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd AG is splitting its Region Europe into northern and southern parts. In doing so, the world’s fifth-largest liner shipping company will remain close to global markets and serve customers from a total of six regions effective immediately.The new Region South Europe, which will have its headquarters in the Italian port city of Genoa, aims to bolster Hapag-Lloyd’s competitive position in the Mediterranean region. Aliança: Second Flagship in the Cabotage Fleet Christened

With the christening of the new container ship “Vicente Pinzón”, the Hamburg Süd subsidiary AlianŇ«a has -- for the moment -- completed the expansion and modernization of its fleet. In the past two years, AlianŇ«a has launched a total of six newbuildings for its cabotage services, four of which feature a slot capacity of 3,800 TEU each and two with 4,800 TEU each. All newbuildings have set new standards in the Brazilian coastal routes in terms of their capacity and environmental characteristic.

Aliança Christens 2nd Cabotage Boxship

With the christening of the new container ship “Vicente Pinzón”, the Hamburg Süd subsidiary AlianŇ«a has momentarily completed the expansion and modernisation of its cabotage fleet. In the past two years, AlianŇ«a has launched a total of six newbuildings for its cabotage services, four of which feature a slot capacity of 3,800 TEU each and two with 4,800 TEU each. All newbuildings have set new standards in the Brazilian coastal routes in terms of their capacity and environmental friendliness. MPHRP at Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy

Chirag Bahri, MPHRP Regional Director for South Asia was invited by Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy in Karjat, India, to interact with the cadets undergoing pre sea training at the prestigious nautical college. During the presentation, Mr Bahri advised seafarers on the attacks in the West Africa region, South East Asian waters and that there is a sharp decrease in attacks in the Indian ocean. He informed them that, by following best management practices, the vessel and its crew have been able to avoid such attacks but that it was vitally important for the seafarers to remain vigilant throughout transit through such waters. The seafarers were also advised that if they are held captive by pirates they should remain united and respect their fellow crew members and maintain hierarchy of rank.

Alianҫa’s Fleet Continues to Grow

Within the scope of a customer event, the new container ship “Bartolomeu Dias” was christened on 14 April 2015 at the TECON Terminal in the southern-Brazilian port of Rio Grande. Southern France Gas Trading Hubs to Merge

The two gas trading hubs in the south of France will merge on April 1, power trading group Powernext said on Tuesday, marking a first step towards a unified French gas platform aimed at preventing the large price swings currently seen in the market. France is divided into three gas hubs, but pipeline bottlenecks between the northern hub called Peg Nord and the southeastern Peg Sud prevent Norwegian and Russian pipeline imports from flowing to the south of the country. This makes Peg Sud, and the third gas hub, TIGF, in the southwest, more dependent on relatively more expensive liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports, weighing on local industry's competitiveness.

The ship’s Sponsor is Elisabeth von Krüger de Freitas, the wife of Humberto Ramos de Freitas, Executive Officer for Logistics and Mineral Exploration of Vale S.A., one of the most important clients of Aliança Bulk. Dr. Arnt Vespermann, Member of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd and Julian Thomas, General Manager Region South America East Coast of Hamburg Süd and Aliança, also participated in the ceremonies.

Kerry Announces U.S. Assistance for Maritime Capacity in SE Asia

On December 16, Secretary of State John Kerry announced an initial commitment of $32.5 million in new regional and bilateral assistance to advance maritime capacity building in Southeast Asia. Including this new funding, our planned region-wide funding support for maritime capacity building exceeds $156 million for the next two years. Alianca Holds Naming Ceremony for New Container Ship

With the Fernão de Magalhães, Aliança has christened the second of four identical new container ships for its cabotage fleet. The Naming Ceremony was held on September 26 at the container port of Porto Chibatão on the Rio Negro in Manaus. The Sponsor of the ship is Dionéia Thomas, the wife of Julian Thomas, who is General Manager Region South America East Coast of Hamburg Süd and Aliança. Dr. h.c. August Oetker, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Oetker Group and Partner of Dr. August Oetker KG, and Dr. Ottmar Gast, Chairman of the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, also took part in the ceremony. Hamburg Süd Makes Changes to the Executive Board

After 18 years on the Executive Board of Hamburg Süd, Joachim A Konrad, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, is to retire at the end of April, 2012. The Advisory Board of Hamburg Süd has appointed Peter Frederiksen and Frank Smet to succeed him. They will be joining the Executive Board  May 1, 2012. The scale and importance of the duties performed by Joachim A Konrad in past years prompted the Advisory Board to split the scope of responsibilities in the future. Ukraine to Build Corvette Class Ship

Ukraine is serious about reviving and further development of its ship-building industry in Mykolaiv region (South Ukraine - Ed.). This is the theme of the visit of the Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to Chernomorsky Shipyard in Mykolaiv, where he participated in laying the keel of the corvette class ship for the Naval Force ofUkraine. During the visit the President commended the ship-building employees for their patience and faith. "I am confident that together we will create with you all the motivation for the development of shipbuilding," said the Ukrainian leader. This will be the third ship of corvette class that Ukraine will build since its independence.

Hatteland Chosen for Navy Freedom Class

Hatteland Display's Naval Multi Display (NMD), has been chosen for the US Navy Freedom Class LCS by Navantia, Spanish military ship building contractor. The Navantia system is an Electro-Optical (E-O) solution for the fire control system of the Freedom Class. It is a high-tech solution that is also selected by the American company Lockheed Martin. "We have worked closely with the Navantia R&D team in southern Spain, which has led to participation in various ship and submarine programs for local and export contracts," said Mehdi Bounoua, Manager Region South Europe, Hatteland Display. The new NMD meets the requirements of MIL-S-901D, Grade A, Class I shock, eliminating the need for shock isolation in the rack or console, as well as Mil-Std-167-1, Mil-Std-461E, and Mil-Std-810F.
