Electronics Retrofit for Taiwanese Research Vessel
L-3 SAM Electronics has been awarded a contract to retrofit propulsion control and automation systems aboard the Taiwanese Navy’s Ta Kuan hydrographic and oceanographic research vessel. The 93-meter-long vessel, built by Fincantieri at its shipyard in Muggiano, La Spezia, Italy in 1995, carries out operations in domestic waters as well as the South China Sea on behalf of Taiwan’s governmental National Science Council and other research institutes. The completion of the retrofit is planned for later this year.
L-3 SAM Electronics Equips Vidar Heavy-Lift Jack-Up
L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that it has completed the supply and installation of extensive drive equipment, as well as automation, navigation and positioning systems, on board the Heavy-Lift Jack-Up Vessel (HLJV) Vidar, which is operated by HOCHTIEF Infrastructure GmbH for construction and service support of offshore wind farms. The Vidar is the latest in a series of recently completed offshore turnkey projects undertaken by L-3 SAM Electronics on behalf of leading operators in the world’s offshore industry.
L-3 SAM Helps Hamburg Süd Meet California Regulations
L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that after one year of preparation time, seven container ships currently chartered by Hamburg Süd and regularly calling at the U.S. West Coast ports of Long Beach, Los Angeles, Port Hueneme and Oakland, Calif., were equipped with its latest SAMCon high-voltage onshore power connection facilities, enabling the vessels to meet California’s strict clean air regulations. The regulations establish measures for providing shore-based, emission-free electrical power to vessels, allowing their main and auxiliary engines to be disengaged while in port.
Green Shore Power Connection for 11 Hanjin Ships
L-3 SAM Electronics announced today that 11 Hanjin Shipping container vessels calling at the U.S. West Coast ports of Long Beach and Oakland, Calif., are to be fitted with its SAMCon high-voltage onshore power connection facilities. SANIL Electric Co., Ltd. is the prime contractor to L-3 SAM Electronics, and the end user is Hanjin Shipping. SAMCon will enable the vessels to meet California’s upcoming strict clean air regulations, when berthed at terminals, without generating harmful noise and air pollutants caused by active diesel engines.
