Offshore Solutions Celebrates 2500 Safe Connections

Offshore Solutions B.V. (OSBV), the joint venture between AMEC and Cofely Nederland N.V., has announced another significant achievement in the operation of the Offshore Access System (OAS*). Installed on the GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. (GSEPN) chartered vessel, REM Mermaid, the OAS has successfully achieved 2,500 operational connections. This is the third operational OAS in the Southern North Sea and during its operational life so far has also facilitated the safe transfer of 22,000 personnel, whilst reaching two-and-a-half years without any lost time incidents (LTIs).

Offshore Solutions B.V. (OSBV) reported that the OAS, mounted onboard the GDF SUEZ E&P Nederland B.V. (GSEPN) chartered vessel, REM Mermaid, has achieved over 1,000 operational connections without any LTIs. An OAS is a heave compensated telescopic gangway, enabling the safe transfer of personnel from a vessel to an offshore installation (wind turbine, oil or gas platform) designed to operate in 2.5 metre Hs (significant wave height) sea states. Diesel-Electric PSV for Norwegian Firm

In keeping with the growing popularity of diesel-electric DP2 capable platform supply vessels (PSV) Norways REM Offshore based in Fosnav took delivery of the Rem Mermaid in 2008. The 262.5 ft vessels azimuthing stern drives and twin bow thrusters make it capable of operations in DP2 mode. Four Cummins KTA50-(D)M diesel electric units have a total output of 5,164 kW. However the system allows these units to be operated one, two, three or four at a time to maximize fuel savings by matching power with demand. Built at the Norwegian yard Simek A.S.
