ABB Enhances Safety of Sovcomflot’s Arctic Fleet

ABB has won a contract to supply ABB Ability Remote Diagnostic Systems for Marine to eleven Sovcomflot vessels operating in the Arctic and Russia’s Far East, helping optimize safety and performance through 24/7 remote support.Sovcomflot’s vessels will be among over 1,000 ships connected to ABB Ability Collaborative Operation Centers worldwide. From here, ABB experts monitor operational shipboard systems, coordinate remote equipment diagnostics and offer predictive maintenance services – 24/7. This can be especially crucial for vessels operating in remote areas.

Wartsila to Equip Giant Dredger

A contract has been signed with the Tianjin Dredging Company, part of the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) and the recently founded Dredging Group, under which Wärtsilä will supply the engines and all essential ancillaries for a new self-propelled cutter dredger. The vessel will be one of the largest and most advanced vessels of its type in the world, and will become CCCC Tianjin's flagship. The ship is being built at the Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries shipyard in China. The contract was signed in June. "We have a strong relationship with Wärtsilä and we are confident that they can provide the technology and support needed to make this project a success," says Mr G.M Liu Chang Yun, Ship New Building Management Department, Tianjin Dredging Company of CCCC.

Remote Monitoring: The Bottom Line for Fleet Optimization

By any yardstick, remote monitoring is fleet optimization in the new millennium. You’re all over it: optimizing your fleet. But, what does that mean? For some operators, it means making sure their mix of vessels meets the needs of their customers and the prevailing winds of the economy. For others, it entails reading the tea leaves just right when it comes to deciding on time charters or dipping one’s toes into the spot markets. Still others focus on the closely linked Holy Grail of reduced bunker consumption and minimal stack emissions. For all of these cool customers, however, “remote monitoring” will also be part of that equation. That said; defining what remote monitoring means is another thing altogether. Imtech Marine Signs Agreement to Become Global Xpress Reseller

Rotterdam – Imtech Marine announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Inmarsat to become the first Value Added Reseller of Global Xpress. Global Xpress will be the first global Ka-band network, offering the shipping industry unprecedented speeds and reliability: up to 50Mbps through a 60-100cm antenna. Inmarsat will make XpressLink available to Imtech Marine to offer a bridge to GX with a bundled package of Ku-band VSAT and L-band Fleet Broadband. “Global Xpress will be a world-first in maritime communications, and we are delighted that Imtech will be a frontrunner in offering this solution to the maritime market,” said Eric van den Adel, Managing Director of Imtech Marine.
