Kongsberg's Thrusters, Technology Suite for Olympic CSOV Duo

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has signed a contract with Norwegian vessel operator Olympic to outfit two new Construction Service Operation Vessels with a technology suite. The contract is worth around NOK 64 million (around $6,4 million).Two KONGSBERG US 205 PM L FP L-drive azimuth thrusters will be situated fore and aft in the TWIN X-STERN double-ended hybrid-powered vessels."The KONGSBERG US thruster family has set the industry standards for decades being one of the company’s all-time best-selling propulsion products.

Shipbuilding Merger: Wight Shipyard and OCEA Reach All-share Deal

British aluminum shipbuilder The Wight Shipyard Co. on Tuesday announced an all-share merger with France-based shipbuilder OCEA to create a combined group aiming to capitalize on the fast ferry and offshore renewable energy markets opportunities. The deal is scheduled to complete by March 2022 and will see The Wight Shipyard Co. nearly double in size.Peter Morton, CEO of The Wight Shipyard Co., said, “This is a transformational deal for The Wight Shipyard Co. and for the Isle of Wight, confirming the resurgence of the shipbuilding industry in the United Kingdom.

Aberdeen Harbor Expansion Gains Support

Plans by Aberdeen Harbor Board to create additional berthing facilities at Nigg Bay have received a double boost. An independent report has estimated the economic benefit of the development to the local and national economies to be nearly £1 billion per annum. This report has been published in the same month that the Scottish Government, in their National Planning Process, has named the Nigg Bay Development as one of only 14 projects that they consider to be of national importance to Scotland.

Saint-Gobain Announces Renewable Energy Initiatives

An early glimpse into the 2013 Annual Energy Outlook from the U.S. Energy Information Administration reveals that increased generation from renewable energy is expected to account for 32% of the overall domestic growth in electricity generation from 2011 to 2040. Kongsberg to Offer Rental AUVs

Kongsberg Maritime Ltd announced at Ocean Business 2013 that it will add a number of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) to its rental pool during 2013 and 2014. The addition of AUV capability will further enhance the existing portfolio of Kongsberg Maritime Ltd rental equipment, which supports customers within the offshore oil and gas, environmental and renewable energy markets. Latest GEOSHIPS Vessel Secures Multimillion Pounds Worth of Contracts

GEOSHIPS Group has announced two contract wins worth a combined value of £3 million for the company’s latest vessel. Following an open day on-board the Loch Roag for potential clients, the vessel secured work in the North Sea with two new customers for GEOSHIPS. The forecasted revenue for the DP2 (dynamically positioned) multi purpose support vessel for the next 12 months is valued at nearly £10 million. The Westhill-based company, which was formed in 2003, took delivery of the Loch Roag in April on a contract valued at over £30 million. It resulted in the employment of 40 new offshore staff.

Dresser-Rand to Acquire Synchrony

Dresser-Rand Group Inc. (NYSE: DRC) signed a definitive agreement to acquire Synchrony, Inc. The transaction is expected to close in January 2012.
