SGS Acquires TTSA's Diving Division

Shipyard Bijela: Concession to Consortium of Damen and Adriatic Marinas

Damen Shipyards Group, Adriatic Marinas and the Montenegrin Government have signed a contract for redevelopment of Bijela shipyard. Carnival Opens High-tech Training Center

Carnival Corporation & plc today announced the official opening of its Arison Maritime Center, a world-class facility dedicated to providing safety training for its bridge and engineering officers responsible for the navigation and operation of the company’s fleet of cruise ships. Located in Almere, Netherlands just outside Amsterdam, the new 75-million-euro facility features some of industry’s most advanced simulators and training equipment to provide annual training to more than 6,500 bridge and engineering officers from Carnival’s 10 global cruise line brands.

Trelleborg Ships its 600th LNG Ship Shore Link

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation has passed a milestone with the shipment of its 600th SeaTechnik Ship Shore Link (SSL) system for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Industry. Shell Nigeria Declares Force Majeure at its EA Field

Royal Dutch Shell said on Thursday it had declared force majeure at its EA field in Nigeria to repair equipment damaged by bad weather offshore, putting on hold production of about 40,000 barrels of oil a day. Repairs were needed to the soft yoke mooring platform, it said in a statement. The EA field is located south west of Warri in water depths of around 25 metres. US Navy Awards $227-Million Contracts to General Dynamics

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics, says it has been awarded two contracts valued at approximately $226.7 million by the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) office for continuing efforts to modernize and repair training and support equipment for the U.S. and United Kingdom ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) and SSGN fleets. WSS Introduces Three–in-One Welding

World-leading maritime services provider Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has launched a new, innovative welding machine that allows operation of three separate welding processes within one unit. The Unitor UWW-161 MP(Unitor Wire Welder- 161 Multi Process) allows users to carry out stick-electrode welding, wire welding (MIG/MAG) and TIG welding using a 230 volt single-phase 16 amp slow fuse. This represents a major step forward for welders in the constant drive to improve efficiency.

The arranging for transport by sea or the buying and selling of things needed for ships that sail from port to port are among the world's oldest professions. Many ship owners, operators or managers still conduct business the old-fashioned way, building and maintaining close and longstanding relationships with suppliers or customers. While the dot-com craze of a few years ago has passed, E-business is revolutionizing several important business processes in the maritime industry. Computers can aid in the design and construction of vessels, and the Internet can be used to transmit design information and changes instantaneously.
