Resolve Maritime Academy informed it has started building a new, two-story wet trainer, larger and more expansive than its original, the L/V Gray Manatee. “We are incredibly proud to offer a course that combines stability and damage control using our new two-story wet trainer,” said Denise Johnston, Resolve Maritime Academy Director. Utilizing props meant to simulate flooding from breaches, broken pipes, and hatches, the new wet trainer is designed to give the first responders of a vessel the knowledge and understanding necessary to deal with survivable hull breaches. Located next to the L/V Gray Manatee in Port Everglades, the academy’s new wet trainer is one of the largest in the industry.

Resolve Maritime Academy recently completed its installation of Transas engine room simulator platform, the ERS 5000 TechSim. As part of the Academy’s Simulation Training Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the engine room has booked classes for January 2014. The ERS 5000 TechSim has allowed Resolve Maritime Academy to expand its course offerings to engineers from all sectors of the maritime industry including the offshore, tanker and cruise sectors. Joe Farrell needs no introduction to the marine salvage community or, for that matter, MarineNews readers. Originally from the Boston, Mass., area, he began by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard, eventually attending the U.S. Navy diver school, becoming a ship’s diver. After two years at sea and diving in Arctic waters, he volunteered for service and became an explosives advisor, offloading ammunition ships in Vietnam. Eventually, Farrell became a civilian diver at the U.S.

Resolve Salvage & Fire (Europe), Ltd., the European emergency response subsidiary of U.S.- based Resolve Marine Group, Inc., has added a new office at 23, Austin Friars, London, expanding the company’s U.K. operations base. The 34-year-old marine salvage, emergency response and wreck removal company has been steadily expanding, both geographically and in its service offerings for the international maritime industry. Joining the new London office is Daniel Dettor, a Commercial Manager formerly based at Resolve’s corporate headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Resolve Maritime Academy (RMA) has ordered the Transas Techsim 5000, DNV approved, Class A, Full Mission Engine Room Simulator for their new simulation facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The new engine simulation systems currently being deployed will facilitate the conduct of a wide range of courses for the training of marine engineers, including operational and emergency procedures and crew resource management training with Resolve’s existing Transas Full Mission Bridge Simulators.

2012 presented a number of interesting challenges for the Transas ship modeling and hydrodynamics department, not least of which was the high fidelity modeling of more than ten vessels successfully completed for various high-profile members of the global Cruise Industry. The year began with the development of several in-service vessels for the Resolve Maritime Academy, in support of their training programs for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL). This included the Celebrity Solstice, Freedom of the Seas, Vision of the Seas and TUI Mein Schiff 1.

Transas reflects upon 2012 as being a successful year of high-fidelity cruise ship modelling for various clients. The year began with the development of several in-service vessels for the Resolve Maritime Academy, in support of their training programs for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL). This included the Celebrity Solstice, Freedom of the Seas, Vision of the Seas and TUI Mein Schiff 1. Each was painstakingly developed and validated to ensure the highest level of realism when compared against the equivalent operational vessel.

Resolve Maritime Academy has joined the Transas Global ECDIS Training Network, known as Get-Net. The Academy recently expanded its Fort Lauderdale, Florida training facilities, adding a second ECDIS classroom with Transas simulation software and Transas ECDIS to meet the high demand for Generic and Type-Specific ECDIS training. The training partnership with Transas allows Resolve Maritime Academy to comply with all Flag State, Port State Control and Classification Society requirements and to better serve its global client base, in time for the new ECDIS training requirement deadlines.

Resolve Maritime Academy and Royal Caribbean Cruises to join forces to deliver state-of-the-art simulator-based safety and navigation training for Royal Caribbean cruise ship personnel. Resolve Maritime Academy and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced today that plans are underway for new simulation-based training programs to enhance safety at sea for the cruise line’s personnel and guests. In 2011, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCL) selected Resolve to be their exclusive provider of all simulator-based training courses, and formalized arrangements to jointly develop the new programs.

Marine Firefighting Veteran Jeff Johnson Joins Resolve as Manager, Training and Response, and Pacific Region Responder. RESOLVE Marine Group has announced that Jeff Johnson has joined the company as Manager, Training and Response with responsibilities in both RESOLVE’s  Salvage & Fire (Americas) emergency response/OPA-90 subsidiary and at RESOLVE Maritime Academy, the training subsidiary. RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc. (RESOLVE) has acquired the staff and assets of the Elliott Bay Design Group’s (EBDG) New Orleans, Louisiana office. The addition of former EBDG personnel in New Orleans expands  RESOLVE’s in-house engineering team, creating a new company and wholly owned subsidiary  RESOLVE Engineering Group, LLC. The Group will support RESOLVE’s  extensive worldwide operations while continuing to serve both former and  new clients as a full-service naval architecture and marine engineering group.

Resolve Maritime Academy, U.S. - based maritime emergency response training center, graduated seven students from Qatar on November 23. The graduates, who are land-based firefighters, came to Resolve’s South Florida facility for a customized program of marine- oriented fire, hazardous materials and safety courses. The program was organized in cooperation with the National Academy for Professional Training (NAPT) in Qatar. The students attended classes at Resolve Maritime Academy’s Port Everglades, Fla. facilities from October 4 through November 25.

Martha Lord has joined Resolve Marine Group as Manager of Marketing and Communications in the company’s Fort Lauderdale, Fla. headquarters at 1850 S.E. 17th Street, Suite 204. Lord manages marketing, public relations and advertising for all divisions of the company, including Resolve Salvage and Fire, and Resolve Maritime Academy. Lord was formerly with the Ruden McClosky law firm in Fort Lauderdale, where she was Communications Manager for their statewide practice. Previously, she was Director of Association Services for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida.
