New Intermodal Facility Coming to Port of Mobile

The Alabama Port Authority board of directors recently approved a $2.042 million purchase of 272 acres in Montgomery, Ala., to construct an inland container intermodal transfer (ICTF) facility. The project will extend intermodal rail service from the Port Authority’s container intermodal terminal at the Port of Mobile in support of Alabama regional growth in manufacturing, retail, distribution, and agribusiness sectors.“This project will provide our shippers cost-competitive transportation services to and from one of the nation’s fastest growth containerized cargo gateways,” said John C.

Port of Mobile to be Deepened to 50 Feet

The State of Alabama and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers entered into the Project Partnership Agreement twio deepen and widen the Port of Mobile to 50 feet in late 2024 or early 2025.Colonel Sebastien P. ABB Acquires Logistics Tech Firm intrion

Swedish-Swiss multinational corporation ABB has completed its acquisition of intrion, with the aim of boosting its expertise in fast-growing logistics automation market.intrion is a privately owned company headquartered in Huizingen, close to Brussels, with approximately 120 employees and over a decade of experience in logistics automation solutions and services for the logistics, food and beverage and pharmaceutical industries.The acquisition was announced on July 24, 2018. The two parties agreed not to disclose the value of the transaction.Distribution and fulfilment centers are increasingly turning to robotic automation solutions to improve their efficiency, workplace safety and scalability to meet soaring demand.

Toll to Build Two New Ships

Toll Group announced it is investing $170 million to build two new ships to support trade between Victoria and Tasmania and to meet the demands of continued growth. The new, purpose-built ships, operating between Burnie, Tasmania and Melbourne, Victoria, will provide 40 per cent more freight capacity, more opportunities to transport refrigerated freight for Tasmania’s growing chilled export market and more flexibility for customer deliveries. Lineage Logistics Acquires Seattle Cold Storage

Lineage Logistics, a warehousing and logistics company sponsored by Bay Grove Capital LLC, announced today that it has acquired the assets of Seattle Cold Storage (SCS) and its facilities located in the Port of Tacoma and Algona, WA. The acquisition increases Lineage’s footprint to over 13 million square feet and 290 million cubic feet, which represents the second largest refrigerated warehouse network globally based on data from the International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. SCS is one of the Puget Sound’s largest public refrigerated warehousing (PRW) companies and provides a breadth of service offerings including temperature-controlled storage, import / export services, retail distribution, and transportation services.

LNG Carrier 'Coral Energy' naming ceremony to take place next month at the Port of Rotterdam Cruise Terminal. The new ship is claimed by the Dutch owners, Anthony Veder,  to be world’s first direct driven dual-fuel ice class 1A LNG carrier. Its development started in 2010 in close cooperation with Norwegian gas provider Skangass. Telstra commits $1.5M for Iridium Equipment

Beam receives a $5 M commitment from Telstra for Satellite Docking Stations and Iridium Handsets. Beam Communications Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of World Reach Limited (ASX: WRR), announces it has received a commitment from Telstra to purchase a minimum of USD5.1 M of Iridium based satellite docking stations and product bundles over the next 12 months. The initial shipment (valued at USD1.65 M) is expected to be fulfilled by 30 June 2012, the balance being called upon as required over the 12 month period.

Evergreen Inbound at Savannah

Evergreen Line will commence a first inbound at the port of Savannah in its Asia-US East Coast commencing January 2009. The move is being made to meet the needs of the growing retail distribution center development in the Georgia port area. Commencing with the sailing from Yantian, China of the 4,211 TEU vessel, 'Ever Diadem 0453-081E', on January 10, 2009 the weekly service will employ the following rotation: Yantian- Hong Kong - Kaohsiung - Colon - Savannah - New York - Baltimore - Colon -Yantian The existing rotation calls New York, Baltimore and Savannah in the US. The change will reduce transit times inbound from the Asia by six days to Savannah. The transit time from the last Asia port, Kaohsiung, to the first American destination, Savannah, will be just 22 days.
