Silversea Cruises Names Barbara Muckermann President & CEO

Barbara Muckermann, currently chief commercial officer at Silversea Cruises, will become the company’s next president and CEO, and will join parent company Royal Caribbean Group’s executive committee, effective January 1.Muckermann will succeed Roberto Martinoli, who will assume the role of senior advisor to Royal Caribbean Group president and CEO Jason Liberty.She becomes the second woman to lead one of Royal Caribbean Group’s three wholly-owned brands, and joins Celebrity Cruises president and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, and Royal Caribbean International president and CEO Michael Bayley.

Hapag-Lloyd Raises 2019 Operating Profit by 80%

German container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd raised its 2019 operating profit by 80% to 811 million euros ($875.47 million) as it earned higher freight rates and cut costs, the Hamburg-based firm reported on Wednesday."The main drivers of the positive business developments have been improved freight rates as well as rigorous cost and revenue management," said the company, the world's fifth biggest operator, in a statement on preliminary results.Operating earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) had previously been pegged in a target corridor between 0.5 billion and 0.9 billion euros.Earnings be

Carnival Announces Leadership Changes

Carnival Corporation & plc announced that Michael Ungerer, currently President of Germany-based AIDA Cruises, has been appointed Chief Operations Officer-Shared Services for Carnival Asia, effective September 1, 2015. Ungerer will relocate to Shanghai, China, and directly support each of the Carnival Corporation brands operating in the region to leverage the company's industry-leading presence and scale in the region. Ungerer will jointly report to Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group, which includes AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises, and to a China steering committee comprising the Carnival Corporation brands operating in the region. In addition, longtime AIDA senior executive Felix Eichhorn has been named president of AIDA Cruises. He will also report to Thamm.

Beth Bodensteiner is Sr VP at Holland America Line

Beth Bodensteiner has been promoted to senior vice president, revenue management for Holland America Line. In this capacity, Bodensteiner will lead the development and execution of all revenue management programs and initiatives that support Holland America Line’s revenue goals. She will report directly to Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “Since joining the company more than a decade ago Beth has consistently demonstrated a level of professionalism and expertise that have been instrumental in the company’s planning and decision making,” said Ashford. Caterpillar Rejigs Top Deck

Caterpillar Inc. * Doug Hoerr has been appointed as vice president with responsibility for the Strategic Services Division. Caterpillar’s Board of Directors has appointed Julie Lagacy, a 26-year veteran of the company and currently vice president with responsibility for the Finance Services Division (FSD), as Chief Information Officer (CIO) and vice president with responsibility for the Global Information Services Division (GIS). In addition to leading FSD, earlier this year Lagacy assumed leadership of GIS following the departure of the former Chief Information Officer. She will continue to report to Brad Halverson, group president and Chief Financial Officer, and will also retain the Business Systems Transformation (BST) group.

Orlando Ashford is President, Holland America Line

Holland America Line announced today that effective Dec. 1 Orlando Ashford will join the company as president to lead the award-winning cruise line's brand and business, including its fleet of 15 premium vessels carrying approximately 850,000 guests annually to all seven continents. Ashford joins the company from Mercer, the global consulting leader in talent, health, retirement and investments, where he was president of the Talent Business Segment. “We are fortunate to have Orlando join our team, bringing with him a career's worth of global experience leading high-performance teams that helped innovate some of the most respected and well-known companies in the world,” said Stein Kruse, chief executive officer, Holland America Group.

Royal Caribbean Promotes Executives

Royal Caribbean Cruises's Brian Rice has been promoted to Vice Chairman and CFO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. In this expanded role, Rice will continue to oversee the finance function, but also take on responsibility for the company's supply chain department, as well as focusing more on strategic issues. Rice will continue to report directly to Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO. Rice has been with Royal Caribbean for over 20 years, most recently as Executive Vice President and CFO. Prior to that, Rice has served in a variety of senior management positions, including Senior Vice President, Revenue Performance, where he was responsible for revenue management, air/sea, groups, international operations, decision support, reservations and customer service.

Zarmati, CEO of Costa Cruises NA, to Retire

After nearly 43 years in the cruise business, Maurice M. Zarmati is retiring as president and CEO of Costa Cruises North America, effective November 30, 2011. He will remain with the line as a senior consultant on Costa’s worldwide sales, marketing and passenger-traffic initiatives. Zarmati, 65, became president and CEO of Costa Cruises North America in March 2008. He is responsible for sales, marketing, guest services, finance, human resources and revenue management for the North American sales and marketing  headquarters of Europe’s leading cruise company, Costa Crociere S.p.A., based in Genoa, Italy. He reports directly to Costa’s home office.

New Report on Norwegian Energy Policy

Norway  is  pursuing  ambitious,  forward-thinking  energy  policies,  but  could  go  further  in  its efforts to become a low-carbon economy, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has concluded in a review published today. Energy Policies  of  IEA Countries  - Norway  2011 Review  says  that  it will  be  challenging  for Norway  to meet  its 2020  target of  reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared with 1990  levels,  because  both  the  country’s  electricity  supply  and  its  energy  use  in  buildings  are already essentially carbon-free due to hydropower use.

President’s 2012 Budget: $358.4 M for BOEMRE

President Barack Obama today announced his request for $358.4 million to fund the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) in fiscal year 2012. This represents a $119.3 million, or 50 percent, increase above the 2010 enacted level, after adjusting for funding transferred to the Office of the Secretary as part of the ongoing reorganization of the former Minerals Management Service (MMS). The budget is designed to implement critical organizational and regulatory reforms in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, so that domestic offshore energy resources are developed in a safe and responsible manner.

Zarmati Named President & CEO of Costa Cruise Lines—North America

Maurice Zarmati has been named president and CEO of Costa Cruise Lines—North America. Zarmati, who is currently vice president of sales for Carnival Cruise Lines, will assume his new role beginning March 31, 2008. An accomplished sales executive, Zarmati has been with Carnival Cruise Lines since 1972, leading one of the largest and most successful sales teams in North America. In his new role as president and CEO of Costa Cruise Lines—North America, Zarmati will report directly to Gianni Onorato, president of Costa Crociere, and will be responsible for all sales and marketing efforts for Costa’s North and Central American regions. This includes sales development, marketing, revenue management, finance, human resources and passenger services.

Hellberg Takes Post at Wärtsilä

B.Sc. (Eng.) Lars Hellberg (45) has been appointed Group Vice President, Head of Engine division and member of the Board of Management as of June 1, 2004. He joins Wärtsilä from Saab Automobile AB in Trollhättan, Sweden where he currently is Executive Director for Customer Satisfaction and Quality. Before joining Saab in 2001, Mr Hellberg has pursued a long career for Volvo in Sweden and in the Netherlands. He has held management positions related to engine and vehicle development, manufacturing and logistics, subsidiary management, corporate business processes, revenue management and global sales. Hellberg joining Wärtsilä now will ensure a smooth change of command during the summer and autumn well in time before Sven Bertlin is due to retire.

MMS Names Mineral Revenues Stewardship Award Winners

Timely payment of royalties and accurate reporting have earned four energy companies the Mineral Revenues Stewardship Award, the Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) announced today. The oil and gas industry places a high value on the award. “We are recognizing these companies for their exceptional performance in production reporting and timely payment of royalties to the Federal Government,” MMS Director Johnnie Burton said. The award recipients are ConocoPhillips, Shell Exploration and Production Company, XTO Energy Inc., and Foundation Wyoming Land Company. They will be receiving the Stewardship Award during the annual MMS Industry Awards Ceremony on April 17, 2007, in Houston, Texas.
