Aquavita Charters Diana Shipping's M/V Boston Bulk Carrier

Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Aquavita International for one of its Capesize dry bulk vessels, the m/v Boston. The gross charter rate is US$20,500 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until a minimum of April 1, 2023, up to a maximum of May 31, 2023. The charter began on July 15, 2022. The m/v Boston was previously chartered to Richland Bulk Pte. Ltd., at a gross charter rate of US$13,000 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties.The “Boston” is a 177,828 dwt Capesize dry bulk vessel built in 2007."The employment of “Boston” is anticipated to generate approximately US$5.25 million of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter…

New Ethanol Terminal Inaugurated in Columbia

In Washington state, Tidewater Transportation and Terminals inaugurated a $12.5 million ethanol unloading and storage site in Pasco to serve the Columbia and Snake River regions.On Tuesday, August 27, more than 60 area notables, members of the business community, and terminal personnel gathered mid-afternoon for a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration of the company’s state-of-the-art, onsite ethanol unloading and storage facility in Pasco.The facility consists of a 24-hour ethanol unit train railcar unloading rack with 24 new unloading stations and associated rail spurs. In addition, two 65,000-barrel steel tanks were built in order to provide reliable operating storage when an ethanol unit train arrives.

Mattis Takes Oath as 26th Defense Secretary

By a 98-1 vote, the Senate confirmed retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis to be the 26th secretary of defense Jan. 20, and Vice President Michael R. Mattis is the first retired general officer to hold the position since General of the Army George C. Marshall in the early 1950s. Congress passed a waiver for the retired four-star general to serve in the position, because law requires former service members to have been out of uniform for at least seven years to serve as defense secretary. Mattis retired from the Marine Corps in 2013. Mattis is a veteran of the Gulf War and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His military career culminated with service as commander of U.S.

South Carolina Container Volume Up 7%

The South Carolina Ports Authority announced a fiscal year-to-date container volume increase of seven percent, with 678,033 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) handled since July. SCPA moved 164,734 TEUs in October. From a calendar year-to-date perspective, SCPA has seen container volume increase 11 percent over last year with 1,674,891 TEUs handled since January. As measured in pier containers, 93,046 boxes moved across SCPA docks last month. Fiscal year to date, SCPA has handled 382,656 pier containers for an increase of six percent over the same period last year. Non-containerized cargo tonnage also continued to climb through October, with fiscal year-to-date volumes 19 percent ahead of plan.

NEOTEC Contracts with Cleveland Port Authority

Partnership Creates Regional Foreign-Trade Zone Advantage. The Northeast Ohio Trade & Economic Consortium (NEOTEC) has entered into an agreement with the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority for the administration of Foreign-Trade Zone (FTZ) 40. The Port Authority is grantee of FTZ 40, which includes 10 sites totaling more than 5,600 acres in Cuyahoga, Lorain and Ashtabula counties. NEOTEC, a nonprofit regional economic development organization located in Kent, is grantee of FTZ 181, with 27 sites in 8 counties throughout Northeast Ohio. Foss Maritime Aids Power Plant Reactor Tow

Foss Maritime played a crucial role in the success of the towing of a defueled nuclear reactor up the Columbia River for burial of the reactor at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, near Richland, Wash. Under a contract from Portland General Electric, Foss managed and performed barging of the 1,020 ton load from PGE's decommissioned Trojan power plant, near Rainier, Ore., to the Richland barge slip at the Port of Benton. The 270-mile tow was performed by Foss tugs Lewiston and Noydena. Foss towed ZB-240, a 240 x 56 ft. ramp barge, specifically built for the reactor towing assignment by Zidell Marine Corporation. The barge was chartered by PGE from Zidell.
