‘America’s Fireboat’ Heads to Quonset Point for Renovation Work

Preservation efforts are underway to renovate an 85-year old vessel known as “America’s Fireboat”.Designed by noted naval architect William Francis Gibbs and built in 1938 at United Shipyards on Staten Island, the vessel Fire Fighter would go on to serve a long and storied career before being decommissioned and eventually transferred to The Fireboat Fire Fighter Museum in 2013.The iconic fireboat is undergoing extensive renovations to return the vessel to her original glory, the museum announced this week. ONE-Dyas Opts for LiMain for Unmanned Offshore Rig

The Dutch oil and gas company ONE-Dyas is the first to purchase a Liebherr offshore crane, type RL 2600, in combination with the recently launched service concept Liebherr Intelligent Maintenance (LiMain). LiMain is a fully digital, remote, and semi-automatic maintenance system, and with it ONE-Dyas can remotely maintain the new Liebherr craneon the unmanned platform.ONE-Dyas will install the first electrified gas production platform in the North Sea, designed to run entirely on offshore wind power from the nearby Riffgat Offshore Wind Farm.

HGK Shipping Acquires BeKa HGK GmbH

Inland waterway shipping company HGK Shipping acquired the remaining 60% of BeKa HGK GmbH as of December 14, 2022, a strategic decision that the company says "significantly intensify its business activities on the Upper Rhine, Danube and Mosel rivers in its dry shipping division." The previous co-shareholder, Monique Hezel-Reyntjens, will continue to manage the business of BeKa HGK. With the takeover, BeKa HGK is assigned to the dry shipping corporate division within HGK Shipping.

Kongsberg's Thrusters, Technology Suite for Olympic CSOV Duo

Norway's Kongsberg Maritime has signed a contract with Norwegian vessel operator Olympic to outfit two new Construction Service Operation Vessels with a technology suite. Lines and Mitsui & Co have participated in a long-term charter business  operated by MODEC for the purpose of providing a floating production, storage, and offloading system (FPSO) for use in the Area 1 block offshore Mexico and a loan agreement for the Project was entered into on April 12, 2019.Mitsui and MOL invested in Area1 Mexico MV34 B.V. Liebherr-MCCtec Rostock GmbH has presented the latest innovation for the offshore crane market at the ONS exhibition- the RL-K 2600. The ram luffing knuckle boom crane series has been extended by this model which is especially characterized by a very compact design. Since space on deck is an increasingly important issue in the offshore sector, Liebherr has developed a new solution which meets the customers’ requirements. With a small tail swing radius of less than 3 meters the new RL-K 2600 significantly reduces restriction on freedom of movement on platforms and vessels.

Sempra Energy to Build Liquid Fuel Terminal in Mexico

Sempra Energy announced that its Mexican subsidiary, Infraestructura Energética Nova, S.A.B. de C.V. (IEnova), plans to develop, build and operate a receipt, storage and send-out liquid fuels marine terminal at the La Jovita Energy Hub in Ensenada, Mexico. With an expected investment of approximately USD 130 million, the new Baja Refinados liquid fuels terminal will have an initial storage capacity of 1 million barrels of gasoline and diesel that will increase the fuel supply capacity and reliability in Baja California. The Marine terminal is expected to commence operations in the second half of 2020. IEnova also announced it has signed a long-term contract with Chevron Combustibles de México S. de R.L.

Liebherr Offshore Cranes Accessing New Markets

Liebherr’s maritime manufacturing plant in Rostock has been awarded the contract to supply the heavy-lift crane for the Orion, a new wind farm installation and platform decommissioning vessel ordered by DEME from COSCO (QiDong) Offshore, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. The crane is rated at 3,000 metric tons at more than 50 meters, with a lifting height in excess of 170 meters and a designation of HLC (Heavy-Lift Crane) 295000. Delivery will be spring 2019. IRClass First to Certify Indian Recycling Yards per EU Standard

IRClass is amongst the first organizations in the world to certify ship recycling yards according to EU standards as an ‘Independent Verifier’. IRClass Systems and Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (ISSPL), an entity promoted by Indian Register of Shipping, has certified four leading ship recycling yards in Alang as an ‘Independent Verifier’ in accordance with the requirements of European Union Ship Recycling Regulation (EUSRR) 1257/2013. * R.L. * Leela Ship Recycling. These recycling yards are India’s first recycling yards to be certified based on EU standards and have submitted their applications for inclusion in the EU recognized yards list. The deadline for application submission was 30 June 2016 and the yard list is expected to be released by December.

Global Experts Gather for Ship Recycling Seminar

Around 300 people gathered in Tokyo on May 12 to attend a ship recycling seminar held by leading classification society ClassNK. In addition to ClassNK representatives, top industry experts from Asia and Europe discussed the current challenges of ship recycling and what the industry can do to support safe and environmentally sound recycling practices. Koichi Kato, Deputy Director-General for Engineering Affairs, Maritime Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), opened the seminar with a keynote address.

NGO Slams Shipper but Four Alang Recyclers Go Green

The NGO Shipbreaking Platform and Transport and Environment (T&E) have criticized Maersk Group’s decision to beach their end-of-life vessels in Alang, India. Liebherr Sells Knuckle Boom Cranes to China

Liebherr offshore crane division has recently signed a contract with long-time partner DALIAN SHIPYARD (DSIC Offshore) for two state-of-the-art ram luffing knuckle boom cranes of the type RL-K 4200-100 LIT to be delivered for the new high-level semi-submersible BT 4000. "We have already successfully delivered around 40 machines to DSIC to date, but this contract marks a new milestone for us at the Chinese offshore market," informs Gordon Clark, Sales Director of the Liebherr offshore crane division.

Liebherr Reports Record Year for Offshore Cranes

With 87 units delivered in 2014, Liebherr offshore cranes achieved a new per year delivery record, more than doubling its delivery numbers from 2012. And according to Liebherr, well filled order books allow for an optimistic 2015 forecast despite a generally unstable world economic development. “Our distinctly increasing turnover figures wouldn’t be possible without our new production site in Rostock, Germany, as well as our worldwide sales and service network.
