Marine Services Exec Chad Verret Starts New Consultancy

Chad Verret, a former executive in the offshore marine services business, has started a new marine consultancy called Verret Marine Consulting, LLC. The Louisiana-based company has offices in the Houston area and in Morgan City, La. and will be focused on areas such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel, alternative fuels and marine based liquefaction projects.Verret got his start in the offshore industry nearly 40 years ago, signing on with Tidewater Marine as a deckhand in 1985…

World’s First: Abu Dhabi Builds Autonomous Tug

Abu Dhabi Ports has signed an agreement with Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd to develop the world's first fully autonomous commercial marine tugs.The tugs will undertake operations with SAFEEN, Abu Dhabi Ports’ maritime service arm.One of the primary advantages of the innovative design includes greater capability, as shifting the human element from on-board to on-shore, will allow such vessels to operate in far more adverse weather conditions. Foran Employed in Production Design of Pushboat

FORAN has been used by the naval architecture firm ROBERT ALLAN LTD. in the review of the production design of 6000 HP Shallow Draft Pushboat, to be built in Erin Shipyard in Manaus, Brazil. ROBERT ALLAN Ltd., a Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Company based in Vancouver, Canada signed a contract with SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas S.A. (SENER) for the use of FORAN FVIEWER during this project. The 6000 HP Shallow Draft Pushboat was designed by ROBERT ALLAN LTD. for Hidrovias do Brasil. GHENOVA INGENIERIA & GHENOVA BRASIL are developing the complete 3D Model and 2D Production Design.

Harley Adds Mini Training ASD Tug

Harley Marine Services has added the newest component to their comprehensive training program by purchasing the Azimuthing Stern Drive (ASD) Training Vessel, BRAtt, from Robert Allen Ltd. The BRAtt is representative of a modern ASD tug and was purposefully built as a training tool for the maritime industry. Its compact design is scaled to proportionately represent a full size tug with dimensions of just 25.6 feet by 11.8 feet and a horsepower of 450. The HMS BRAtt, stationed in Seattle, joins the diverse and growing Harley Marine fleet of 120 vessels.

Samson Quantum-12 Equips the BRAtt

Samson, provider of performance cordage announced that the prototype BRAtt, is equipped with Quantum-12, one of Samson’s most popular towing lines. BRAtt, which is the acronym for Burchett Robert Allen training tug, is scheduled to debut at the International Tug and Salvage Convention and Exhibition in Vancouver, B.C. this month. The result of collaboration between Ron Burchett and Robert Allen Ltd, the BRAtt answers the global need for cost-effective azmuthing-stern-drive training vessels for today’s commercial- and naval-ship masters. The BRAtt is designed exclusively by Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver B.C., and will be built by Adrenalin Marine Ltd. of Delta, B.C., which has been selected as the licensed builder for all BRAtts in North America.
