MPA, IBM Complete Pilot Trial on Project SAFER
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and IBM today announced at the opening of the International Safety@Sea Conference that they have jointly completed the pilot trial of three modules under the MPA-IBM SAFER project, which will be rolled out progressively beginning September 2017. Project SAFER, derived from “Sense-making Analytics For maritime Event Recognition,” is a collaboration between MPA and IBM to develop and test new analytics-based technologies, aimed at improving maritime and port operations to support increasing Singapore’s growth in vessel traffic. PPG Announces Executive Appointments
PG Industries today announced executive appointments effective June 1. Vince Morales, currently vice president, investor relations, will become vice president, investor relations, and treasurer. Morales will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Frank Sklarsky. Since joining PPG in 1985, Morales has advanced through various finance leadership roles of increasing responsibility. He was appointed to his current position in 2007. Morales earned a Bachelor of Science from Robert Morris University and an MBA from The Ohio State University. Eric Thiele, currently corporate treasurer, will become vice president and business controller, global architectural coatings and protective and marine coatings.
GD Units Awarded $18 Million in Defense Contracts
General Dynamics announced that two of its units - General Dynamics Robotic Systems and General Dynamics C4 Systems - have been awarded Defense Department contracts worth more than $18 million. On March 25, General Dynamics Robotic Systems (Westminster, Md.) was awarded a $6.1 million modification to an existing contract for the production of 33 M56 smoke generator systems and five gas turbine engines. Work will be performed in Westminster (M56 Systems) and Phoenix, Ariz. (M56 systems and gas turbine engines), and is to be completed by Jan. 2003. The U.S. Robert Morris Acquisition Center, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md., is the contracting activity.
