Rolls-Royce's Power Systems Profitable Despite 17% Revenue Plunge

Rolls-Royce's Power Systems division has ended the 2020 financial year with an underlying operating profit of $247.3 million despite suffering a 17% drop in underlying revenue to $3.8 billion. This corresponds to an underlying operating margin of 6.5% (2019: 11.5%). Rolls-Royce Plots Further Ship Intelligence R&D

Rolls-Royce has announced the latest stage in its research and development plans to make remote and autonomous shipping a reality and reap the benefits of increasing digitalization in the marine industry. The company said it is looking to develop partnerships and opportunities with other organizations around the world to, create the capability, competencies and jobs to supply the technology and components required. Today, the latest part of that program has been confirmed with the announcement, in Finland, of a significant research grant by Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation.

Syncrolift Deal Strengthens TTS Market Position

Through its subsidiary TTS Handling Systems AS, TTS Group ASA has signed an agreement with Rolls-Royce Marine North America Inc. for purchase of Syncrolift assets. Rolls-Royce Merges 2 Subsidiaries for Better Engine Life Management

Rolls-Royce today announced the merger of two wholly owned subsidiaries, Aero Engine Controls (AEC) and Optimized Systems and Solutions (OSyS), to form a new business, Controls and Data Services (CDS), which will continue to operate as part of the Rolls-Royce Group. The new business will bring together equipment sensors, controls and monitoring systems with performance analysis and health management services, delivering greater asset intelligence at a faster pace. Tognum Now under Rolls-Royce Power Systems Name

Effective immediately, the former Tognum AG will now operate under the name of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG.

Effective immediately, the former Tognum AG will now operate under the name of Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG. Since March 2013, the specialist for large engines, propulsion systems and distributed energy systems has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce plc and Daimler AG, each of which has a 50% shareholding in the company via a joint venture. The group of companies with MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH as the core company has been consolidated in the Rolls-Royce Group’s results since the beginning of 2013.

Tognum America changes name to MTU America Inc.

Name change aligns corporate name with primary product brands MTU and MTU Onsite Energy; German holding company Tognum AG renamed Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG. Effective immediately, Tognum America Inc. has changed its name to MTU America Inc. Based in Novi, Mich., the company is responsible for the manufacture, development, sales and service of MTU engines, propulsion and drive systems and MTU Onsite Energy distributed energy systems in North and Latin America. The company also maintains manufacturing facilities in Aiken, S.C. and Mankato, Minn.

A recent clutch of 'Rolls-Royce' shipboard equipment and technology contracts in Norway arising out of specialized, capital-intensive newbuild projects testified to the U.K. group's march into the commercial marine domain. For sure, the emergence of the engineering group's name in new mercantile circles is the outcome of last year's acquisition of Vickers, and its Vickers-Ulstein Marine division, rather than the result of U.K. home-grown product diversification. Rolls-Royce Sells Tugs to Esnaad

Rolls-Royce group has sold two UT780 tugboats to the UAE’s Esnaad, a unit of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. The boats, which will be able to operate in warm seas, are being built in Indonesia and will be ready in Q1 2008. operation in warm seas, the company said. In addition 500 tons of cargo can be carried on deck, while a six tank, bulk system has also been installed. Two Bergen C-series engines turning twin CP propellers will provide a bollard pull of around 60 tons. The ships are reportedly sold as complete systems and fitted with a range of Rolls-Royce manufactured equipment which can include diesel engines, rudders, propellers, thrusters and powerful deck winches. Darwish Al Qubaisi, Esnaad general manager, said that the UT concept enjoys a unique position.

Esnaad Buys Two Rolls Royce Tugs

The UK based Rolls Royce Group has sold two UT780 tugboats to the UAE's Esnaad, a unit of the Abu Dhbai National Oil Company, according to agency reports. The boats, which will be able to handle high temperatures, are being built in Indonesia and will be ready in Q1 2008. A New Chapter in Naval Shipbuilding

As a resounding endorsement of its long-term commitment to shipbuilding in the U.K., Vosper Thornycroft (VT) has created a state-of-the-art ship production facility within Portsmouth Naval Base. Having recently attained preliminary operational status through steel cutting on 295-ft. (90-m) transport barge, the 33-acre naval shipbuilding yard is set to play a key role in the construction of the Royal Navy's next generation of destroyers while extending VT's overall build capabilities and market reach.
