Changes to Volvo Penta Executive Group Announced

Ron Huibers, President Volvo Penta Americas

After 26 years with Volvo and 7 as President of Volvo Penta Americas, Ron Huibers has decided to retire from his current role and move to another role within Volvo Penta. Succeeding Ron will be Martin Bjuve, currently CFO and SVP Business Office Volvo Penta. Planned transition date will be January 1, 2020. Bjorn Ingemanson, President and CEO Volvo Penta, today announced that Ron Huibers, President Volvo Penta Americas, has decided to retire from his current role and take up a new role within the company. Volvo Penta Buys Majority Stake in Seven Marine

Volvo Penta informs it has signed an agreement to become the major owner of U.S. based outboard motor manufacturer, Seven Marine, enabling the Swedish company to extend its scope of integrated propulsion systems. “With this acquisition, Volvo Penta is entering the outboard motor segment,” said Volvo Penta president, Björn Ingemanson. Volvo Penta said the deal will broaden its technology platform, while Seven Marine will be able to further develop its existing outboard technology to satisfy a wider range of needs for its customer base.

Volvo Penta Wins Innovation Award for Inboard Joystick

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI) today presented Volvo Penta with a 2017 Innovation Award for the Volvo Penta Joystick for Inboard. It is the first and only joystick for twin inboard shaft installations that includes both docking and driving modes and integrates all five steering components: thruster, rudders, gear shift, slip and throttle. “The Joystick for Inboard propulsion delivers substantial benefits to boat builders, dealers and customers, allowing us to offer a complete helm-to-prop solution for inboard applications that makes docking and driving a shaft boat effortless and intuitive,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas.

Volvo Penta’s Bonivich Named 'Darlene Briggs Woman of Year'

Volvo Penta Launches New Tier 4 Open Power Units

Volvo Penta has introduced a new line of EPA Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV PowerPac industrial open power units for OEM manufacturers. Volvo Penta is initially deploying the PowerPac systems in the Americas, and will roll out the products for industrial customers worldwide through the company’s global distribution channels. The PowerPac systems come equipped with a complete set of preinstalled components including all Tier 4F/Stage IV after-treatment components, engine cooling system (radiator and CAC), air and fuel filters and mounting brackets.

Emissions Control Takes Center Stage for Workboat Engines

Today’s workboat operators must navigate increasingly stringent IMO and EPA environmental and emissions regulations in and around ports and rivers. As the drama unfolds, selective catalytic reduction or SCR is emerging as a viable vehicle to do just that. At the same time, fears about space constraints for smaller vessels and the hassle of carrying and handing urea for these systems are rapidly evaporating, as well. Two different firms – both familiar names in propulsion markets – have embraced SCR as the way forward. Both, Tenneco and Volvo Penta, rely on deep roots in these markets and significant experience in the effort to reduce emissions from engines.

Volvo Penta Wins NMMA's CSI Award

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) this week presented the 12th consecutive Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) award to Volvo Penta recognizing excellence in customer satisfaction in marine sterndrive engines. The CSI award is based on an independent survey of over 50,000 consumers purchasing a new boat or engine during the period from April 2014 through March 2015. The CSI award signifies that Volvo Penta achieved and maintained an independently measured standard of excellence of 90 percent or higher. The CSI program was implemented by the NMMA to support industry efforts to improve the consumer boating experience and recognize those companies that achieve the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Volvo Penta Debuts Marine Gas Sterndrive Engines

Volvo Penta today unveiled its new family of next-generation 5.3L V8 gasoline engines for the marine sterndrive market in a press preview at the company’s Test Center in Suffolk, Va. “Volvo Penta has a rich history of innovation in marine propulsion, and with these next-generation V8s, we are establishing a new industry benchmark for acceleration, speed, weight-to-power ratio, fuel economy, emissions reduction and proven reliability,” said Ron Huibers, president of Volvo Penta of the Americas. Volvo Penta’s new marine engines are based on General Motors’ highly acclaimed Gen V platform. “In addition to these innovations, we have incorporated our tried-and-true RPM-based speed control, which automatically maintains speed when the boat is in a tight turn,” added Huibers.

Marcelo Puscar has been appointed as director of marketing at Volvo Penta of the Americas. Previously director of marine sales for Latin America, Puscar will relocate from Volvo Penta Brazil to the company’s headquarters in Chesapeake, Va., where he will be responsible for managing and implementing a strategic marketing plan that builds, promotes and communicates Volvo Penta’s brand, products and services in the marine and industrial market sectors. On a beautiful Autumn afternoon in Charleston, SC last month, MarineNews Editor Joseph Keefe had the good fortune to attend the christening on the nation’s first dual purpose, rapid response vessel and pilot launch. As the first vessel to be designed for offshore salvage and firefighting requirements, it was also notably the first commercial application of Volvo Penta’s IPS drive propulsion. The vessel also represents an interesting twist in the Charleston Branch Pilots’ business model. The pilot game is already a pretty good paying gig, but clearly, this group is thinking outside the box.

Fort Ripley, a new offshore emergency response craft now entering service in Charleston, S.C., is reported to be the first commercial vessel in North America to be powered by triple Volvo Penta IPS drives. Designed by C. Volvo Penta announced the opening of the new Volvo Group Central Parts Distribution Center in Byhalia, Mississippi, in a move to optimize delivery performance and efficiency for dealers and OEM customers in North America. As the anchor tenant of a new industrial park, the one million square-foot state-of-the-art Volvo Group facility will support Volvo Penta recreational marine, commercial marine and industrial business segments, as well as all Volvo Group business areas in North America, and will open for business November 24.
