Coast Guard, Agencies Eradicate 200,000 Illegal Marijuana Plants

The Coast Guard, Drug Enforcement Administration and Bahamian authorities eradicated more than 200,000 illegal marijuana plants in the Bahamas.On Wednesday Feb. 6, 2019, a Coast Guard forward deployed MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Operation Bahamas, Turks & Caicos (OPBAT) recognized what appeared to be a strong smell of marijuana while flying over Andros Island on a joint narcotic interdiction patrol. Bahamas Tour Boat Explosion Kills One, Injures Nine

According to a report on time.com a tour boat exploded in the Bahamas this weekend, killing an American woman and injuring nine others. According to the time.com report, 12 people in total were onboard, including 10 Americans and a pair of Bahamians.  Accoring to the report, the U.S. Coast Guard  received a call from the Royal Bahamas Police Force “requesting assistance after boaters suffered from various injuries,” on Saturday morning. Four people were reportedly evacuated to Florida, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Five victims were airlifted to Princess Margaret Hospital on New Providence Island in the Bahamas.

New Boat Delivered to Royal Bahamas Police Force

SAFE Boats International, a manufacturer of aluminum, patrol and response boats located in Bremerton, Wash., has manufactured and delivered two new 41-foot Center Console – Offshore Interceptors for the Royal Bahamas Police Force adding to its growing fleet of SAFE Boats. The 41-foot Center Console - Offshore Interceptor Vessel’s primary mission is counter-narcotics and human trafficking interdiction within the waters of the Bahamas. The vessels were delivered late in December and acquired through a joint effort between the U.S.

USCG Helps Seize 5,000 lbs of Marijuana

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew, working under the direction of Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, assisted in the seizure of 5,050 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated wholesale value of $4.6 million Wednesday.
