Habben Jansen Takes over as Hapag-Lloyd CEO

Hapag-Lloyd announced changes in its Executive Board resulting from departure of Michael Behrendt and Ulrich Kranich; Anthony J. Rolf Habben Jansen, who has been a member of the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board since April 1, has assumed the position of CEO effective July 1. He succeeds Michael Behrendt, who left the Hapag-Lloyd AG's Executive Board as scheduled on June 30, as did COO Ulrich Kranich. The new COO is Anthony J. Firmin who joined the Executive Board today after 19 years at the company. Peter Ganz continues as CFO, a position he has held since April 2009.

Hapag-Lloyd Ensures Continuity within Executive Management

At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG has set the course at an early stage for maintaining continuity in the Executive Board of Germany’s largest liner shipping company. Rolf Habben-Jansen will succeed Chief Executive Officer Michael Behrendt, who is set to leave in the middle of next year. Habben-Jansen has been appointed to the Executive Board of the company with effect from April 1, 2014 and will assume the position of Chairman of the Executive Board on July 1, 2014. Habben-Jansen is a successful and experienced manager in the logistics sector. Having held positions at the Royal Nedlloyd Group and at DHL, he became CEO of the freight forwarding group Damco NV in The Hague in 2009.

Green Named CEO P&O Nedlloyd Container Line

P&O and Royal Nedlloyd N.V. announced the appointment by P&O Nedlloyd Container Line Limited of Philip Green as Chief Executive Officer from January 1, 2004. Green was, until recentl,y Chief Operating Officer of Reuters Group plc which he joined in 1999. His responsibilities included the design and implementation of a global change management program. Prior to this he worked for nine years with DHL International, the global market leader for cross-border express delivery, becoming Chief Operating Officer for Europe and Africa. Green holds an MBA from London Business School and a BA (hons) degree from the University of Wales. Haddo Meijer, CEO of Royal Nedlloyd NV, will stand down as Chairman of the Executive Committee of P&O Nedlloyd on January 1, 2004.

EC OKs P&O, Royal Nedlloyd Split

The European Commission approved, pursuant to the Merger Regulation, a proposed transaction by which the British port operator P&O and the Dutch liner shipping company Royal Nedlloyd reorganize their common activities in the container liner shipping business. In 1996 Royal Nedlloyd NV and Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) transferred all their respective activities in containerized liner shipping services to a newly created joint venture called P&O Nedlloyd (PONL). The businesses transferred included all their container ships, their respective ocean freight-forwarding business, the container packing operation as well as the road haulage business and rail shuttle business.

P&O Nedlloyd Reverse Listing Finished

Royal P&O Nedlloyd has taken full ownership of P&O Nedlloyd which has effectively become independently listed on the Euronext stock market in Amsterdam. This marks the closing of the rights offering and the completion of the acquisition by Royal Nedlloyd of P&O's 50 per cent stake in P&O Nedlloyd. It also is the renaming of Royal Nedlloyd NV as Royal P&O Nedlloyd NV, and the independent listing of P&O Nedlloyd through Royal P&O Nedlloyd. "I am delighted that we have achieved the listing of P&O Nedlloyd on Euronext today. It is the culmination of our plan to give P&O Nedlloyd the independent status it needs to grow and flourish," said Andrew Land, Chairman of Royal P&O Nedlloyd.

P&O Nedlloyd CEO Resigns

Tim Harris, a director and chief executive of Anglo-Dutch container shipping venture P&O Nedlloyd has resigned effective immediately. "There was a divergence of views between Tim and the rest of the board on issues relating to the future management of the group and he has therefore decided to pursue his career elsewhere," P&O Chairman Lord Sterling said. P&O director Robert Woods had been appointed by the joint venture as group managing director. The company also said Royal Nedlloyd's deputy chairman and chief financial officer, Haddo Meijer, had been appointed chairman of P&O Nedlloyd's executive committee.

P&O Powers Through Poor News

Britain's Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co (P&O) shrugged off higher fuel costs and fears of a downturn in the United States to beat forecasts with a 12 percent rise in profits. P&O, which last year shed its cruise liner division to concentrate on its core ports, container shipping and ferry businesses, announced pre-tax profits before exceptionals of 269 million pounds ($390 million). "These results are considerably better than what the market would have hoped for, despite last year's increase in oil prices," chairman Lord Sterling said.
