Drifting Ship Hits Tennet's HKZ Beta Platform Jacket

A cargo ship was cast adrift by storm Corrie on Monday in the Dutch North Sea, in the area where grid operator TenneT is building two transformer platforms (Hollandse Kust Zuid Alpha and Beta) for the connection of the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Zuid that is being built by Vattenfall. Damen Signs Contract for Nine SAR Boats

At a signing ceremony held at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) offices in Ankara, Turkey, Vladimer Gvilava, chief of mission IOM in Turkey, and Boran Bekbulat, Damen sales manager Turkey, signed a contract for the building and delivery of nine Damen SAR 1906 search and rescue boats for the Turkish Coast Guard Command.Financed by the European Union, these 19-meter boats will be in addition to the six vessels of the same class ordered in 2016, which were delivered to Turkish Coast Guard Command the following year.

Damen’s RSD Tug 2513 Nominated for KNVTS Award

Damen’s radical new ‘always bow first’ RSD Tug 2513 has reached the final stage of this year’s prestigious Maritime Award KNVTS Ship of the Year prize. As one of the last three entrants in contention for the award, the Damen RSD Tug 2513 will be judged on a range of criteria including its design, safety, economy, durability and construction process, and the winner will be announced at the Gala Dinner taking place on November 12th.The 25-meter RSD Tug 2513 is the result of years of research and development by Damen in cooperation with its towage customers and research institute partners.

SAR Vessel Passes Capsize Test with Engines Running

Damen – in cooperation with the Turkish Coast Guard, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and engine manufacturer MTU – said it has completed full scale roll-over testing of its Search and Rescue Vessel 1906 with running engines, in Antalya, Turkey. According to Damen, its SAR 1906 has been an example of technological and academic cooperation since the vessel’s conception. The design itself is the result of close collaboration between Damen and the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), Delft University of Technology, De Vries Lentsch Naval Architects.

Six SAR Boats from Damen Shipyards Antalya

Damen has signed a contract with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in Ankara, Turkey for the supply of six, state-of- the-art Search and Rescue (SAR) vessels for delivery in 2017. The boats are being financed by the European Union and will be operated by the Turkish Coastguard (TURCG), to support the refugees and migrants rescue operations. The award-winning Damen SAR 1906 is a state-of- the-art SAR craft and is the result of a five-year R&D programme initiated by Damen in partnership with the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM), Delft University of Technology and De Vries Lentsch Naval Architects. The SAR 1906 is an all-weather, self-righting vessel with an aluminium hull and a composite wheelhouse.

Servowatch Systems chief executive officer Wayne Ross has praised the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) for winning the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award for its new search and rescue boat, Nh1816. “We are proud to have been associated with this revolutionary vessel,” said Ross. Ross explained that Servowatch Systems has been involved in the project from the outset as KNRM required a vessel with an “exceptionally high level” of automation and systems integration. “We were able to meet the requirement with our turnkey ServoFusion solution,” said Ross.

SAR Boat Named ‘Ship of the Year’ by KNVTS

Damen and its partners have won the Royal Netherlands Society for Marine Engineering (KNVTS) ‘Ship of the Year Award’ for Nh1816,the first of a series of the SAR 1906, a new search and rescue (SAR) boat, at the Maritime Awards Gala 2014 held in Rotterdam. The SAR 1906 is a 35-knots self-righting vessel, with an aluminum hull and a composite wheelhouse. The hull design is based on the Axe Bow technology, adapted for the specific operations of lifeboats. Developed in collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM)…

Engine Performs in Roll Over Test

Engines customized for new Dutch search-and-rescue lifeboat vessels keep running after full rotation on axis. In thrashing, unforgiving seas, a capsized rescue vessel used to be a symbol of defeat. To withstand harsh conditions, sea vessels are designed to right themselves when overturned, but even more critical is the ability of the engines powering those vessels to withstand the 360-degree rollover with no compromise to performance. In these situations, the durability and resilience of a marine engine can be the difference between a rescue or a recovery.

New KNRM Vessel Performs Well at Sea Trials

Damen said a number of trials were conducted last week for the new search and rescue vessel for the KNRM (Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution). Leading up to the official delivery ceremony scheduled for April 2014, the builder reported good results for both the capsizing test as the comparison with the current Arie Visser Class (another all-weather SAR from the KRNM). After completion, the KNRM will deploy the SAR NH1816 with a permanent captain and an on-call crew. Sailors along the entire coast will carry out trials and familiarize themselves with the vessel.

KNRM Rescue Vessel Passes Capsize Trials at Damen Shipyard

The latest rescue vessel commissioned by the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KoninklijkeNederlandse Redding Maatschappij, KNRM) has passed an important trial at Damen Shipyards Group in Gorinchem before being entrusted to its crew. The capsize trials had to show that this youngest generation of rescue vessel is actually capable of righting itself. In four different tests, the rescue vessel righted itself to its normal position within a few seconds of capsizing – a life-saving feature in extreme conditions.

KNRM and Damen Shipyards sign contract for construction of revolutionary lifeboat. The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution – KNRM – enjoys a reputation for excellence in maritime search and rescue. It operates in one of the world’s busiest locations, the North Sea, where over a thousand ships sail in any given 24 hours. To be able to cover all the emergency situations that arise within its area of operations, the KNRM has a dense coastal coverage of 44 lifeboat stations, all equipped with fast, all weather, self-righting lifeboats: one of the most modern and rugged fleets anywhere.
