New Swedish SIGINT Ship Launched
Sweden’s new signals intelligence (SIGINT) vessel was launched from the Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Gdynia, Poland.Outfitting and equipment installation will take place in Nauta Shiprepair Yard, after which the vessel will undergo harbour and sea trials. Kongsberg Naval Sonars for Göteborg-Class Corvettes
Kongsberg Maritime said it has been selected to deliver ST2400 VDS (Varial Depth Sonar) systems for Anti-Submarine Warfare applications (ASW) to the Royal Swedish Navy as part of SAAB’s upgrade program for the Göteborg-Class Corvettes fleet. The main purpose of the ST2400 VDS is to detect submarines, mines and Unmanned Underwater Vehicles in Littoral waters. The ST2400 VDS upgrade will strengthen the Göteborg-Class Corvettes Anti-Submarine capability operating in the Baltics.

Singapore Navy Submarine Returns from Swedish Refit
The Singapore Navy's second 'Archer-class' submarine 'RSS Swordsman' returns to Singapore after upgrading. The Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Archer-class submarine, RSS Swordsman, has arrived at Changi Naval Base (CNB) from Sweden. Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng, and other senior naval officers were present at CNB to witness its return. Launched in Karlskrona, Sweden, on 20 October 2010, RSS Swordsman is one of two ex-Royal Swedish Navy Västergötland-class submarines that Singapore acquired in 2005.
Royal Swedish Navy Chief Conferred Award
RADM Jörgen Ericsson, Navy Inspector of the Royal Swedish Navy, was conferred Singapore’s prestigious military award, the Pingat Jasa Gemilang (Tentera) or Meritorious Service Medal (Military), by Minister for Defence, RADM(NS) Teo Chee Hean. The Meritorious Service Medal (Military) was awarded to RADM Ericsson in recognition of the significant role he played in fostering the strong ties and good relations between the Republic of Singapore Navy and the Royal Swedish Navy. With his support, the Republic of Singapore Navy has successfully conducted its submarine crew training in Sweden. The comprehensive and rigorous training that the Republic of Singapore Navy submariners received has greatly enhanced their professional abilities in submarine operations.
Vericor Supplies Kockums With Gas Turbines
Swedish Navy. The TF50s will replace existing gas turbines and will be part of the Combined Diesel and Gas Turbine (CODAG) systems on the Malmö and Stockholm corvettes. Each TF50 will be rated at 4 megawatts and will drive a controllable pitch propeller through new primary reduction gear. Vericor Power Systems is providing a total of 28 TF50 gas turbines including spares for the Visby program, which consists of six vessels, all built by Kockums. Measuring 164 ft. (50 m), the Malmö and Stockholm vessels were commissioned in 1985. Other enhancements being made to these two vessels include command and control systems and sensor upgrades, along with structural modifications designed to minimize radar signature.
Rolls-Royce Helps Power Combat Boat Success
Versatile, small high-speed craft are becoming an essential tool for modern naval and paramilitary forces, however the roles of these vessels are expanding. Rolls-Royce's Andrew Rice looks at the evolution of the Combat Boat 90. More than 10 years ago, revised Swedish defense planning called for a radical increase in the mobility of coastal defense forces. As a result, the Combat Boat 90 project began, developed by the Swedish Defense Material Administration (FMV). A concept that is proving to be a world beater. The prototype contract for two units required Swedish shipyard Dockstavarvet to produce all calculations and engineering/construction drawings based on the FMV project design. Within 10 months of contract award, trials on the first prototype were a success.
