Rolls-Royce to Cut Up to 2,500 Jobs

Rolls-Royce (RR.L) said on Tuesday it would cut up to 2,500 jobs as its new chief executive seeks to build a more efficient business, the latest boss to attempt to revamp one of Britain's most prestigious engineering companies.Over the last decade, Rolls-Royce, whose engines and systems are used on the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 as well as ships, submarines and in power generation, has been through several restructurings, axing more than 13,000 jobs.Tufan Erginbilgic, who took over in January, is the latest CEO to try to tackle the company's inefficiencies.

Novatek Wins Arctic Gas Field

Novatek said that its wholly-owned subsidiary Arctic LNG 1 has won an auction for a geological survey, exploration and production license for the subsoil area including the Soletsko-Khanaveyskoye gas field.The license is located on the Gydan peninsula in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region, said the natural gas producer in Russia.The license area has estimated hydrocarbon resources of 2,183 billion cubic meters of gas and 212 million tons of liquids, or 16 billion barrels of oil equivalent according to the Russian resource classification system.The license term is 27 years and the auction resulted in one-time payment for the subsoil use in the amount of RR 2…

NOVATEK wins Payutskiy License, Gydan

PAO NOVATEK announced that OOO NOVATEK-Yurkharovneftegas, a wholly owned subsidiary, won the bid for a geological survey, exploration and production license for the Payutskiy subsoil area. The Payutskiy license area has estimated hydrocarbon resources of 354 million barrels of oil equivalent according to the Russian resource classification system and contains the Nanadyanskoye gas field. The license term is 27 years and the auction resulted in a one-time payment for the subsoil use in the amount of RR 66 million rubles. The Payutskiy license area is located in the Krasnoyarsk Territory in close proximity to NOVATEK’s licenses on Gydan peninsula, near the West-Solpatinskiy, North-Tanamskiy, Nyavuyahskiy and Tanamskiy license areas.

Rolls-Royce Marine Unit to Cut 600 Jobs

British engineering group Rolls-Royce (RR.L) said it would cut 600 jobs in its Norwegian-focused marine business in response to the lower oil price, a move it said would have a "broadly neutral" impact on 2015 profits. Rolls-Royce is in the middle of a cost-saving plan in its aero-engines business and headquarters, axing 2,600 jobs, and the streamlining of its marine business comes after a year of profit downgrades and cancelled orders. The company said that from 2016, the job cuts in marine would help generate 25 million pounds of benefits.

Sanmar Delivers Two ASD Tugs

Two new Sanmar Bogacay Class ASD tugs, both second vessels of their power range are delivered to their owners. Rimorchiatori Riuniti took delivery in Genoa, Italy, of RR Turchia (Bogacay 702), a Bogacay Class 70 tonne bollard pull ASD built in Sanmar’s state-of-the-art shipyard at Tuzla, Turkey. Although the vessel was completed in under three months from the date of order, the origins of the class go back to the builder’s earlier discussions with the Italian customer and designer Robert Allan Ltd with the express intent of meeting that owner’s specific needs.

World's Largest Constuction Vessel to be RR Powered

The vessel is being built at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, South Korea for Swiss ship owner and operator Allseas Group. The contract is worth around £18 million and is the largest ever Rolls-Royce thruster order for a single vessel. The thrusters rotate 360 degrees and propel and position the ship, which measures 382 metres in length and 117 metres in width. Named Pieter Schelte, the ship is due to enter into service in 2014 and will carry out installation and decommissioning of oil and gas platforms and pipeline installation projects worldwide. Advanced Anchor-handling Vessel to Fit RR Deck Machinery

Rolls-Royce, has been awarded a £15 million contract by STX OSV to supply an extensive deck equipment package for an advanced anchor handling vessel to be operated by Iceman AS. The package, which is designed to improve operational safety, will include a new anchor handling frame (AHF) and a hydraulic anchor winch, which is capable of pulling 500 tonnes. It will also feature anchor handling cranes and systems to ensure controlled management of wires and chains when pulling heavy loads. As the exploration and production for oil and gas moves towards deeper waters, mooring lines become heavier, more difficult and more hazardous to handle.

Offshore Vessel Design & Equipment Order Won by RR

Rolls-Royce,has  received an order from Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co, Ltd. to design and equip four deepwater platform supply vessels. Greek Ferry: Four Legs for Power

In the near future some marine passengers in Greece will be driving their cars aboard a handy size and handy maneuvering double-ender car ferry. The 288.7 by 57.7-ft vessel is undergoing final fitting out at the Sidironaftiki Epe-Atsalakis shipyard in Piraeus. The owners, Agios Athanasios A Shipping had the vessel designed by naval architect Nikos Petichakis. Capacities include 130 cars on the main deck and 36 cars on a lower deck as well as 500 passengers. Tankage for fuel includes 65 tons with a 10-ton day tank in addition to 120 tons of water.

ADSB and RR Set up Waterjet Support Service Center in Abu Dhabi

and Rolls-Royce Marine Middle East announced an agreement to set up a Waterjet Center of Excellence in to provide support services to its customers in the Arabian Gulf Region. ADSB is the only naval shipyard in the , providing both build and support services for all Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) naval vessels. Rolls-Royce will work with ADSB to offer services such as training, maintenance, repairs and overhauls, spare parts and service contracts for waterjet customers. These services can also be offered to Commercial Ship Owners operating vessels that have waterjet propulsion.

Marinette Marine Wins $33m Contract

Marinette Marine Corp., Marinette, Wis., is being awarded $33,100,000 under a previously awarded firm-fixed contract (N00025-03-C-0002) for the acquisition of four causeway ferrys available to be built under options two and three of the Improved Navy Lighterage System. This award also includes all ten modules constituting a Roll On/Roll-Off discharge facility procured as separate modules under the rotable pool in option four. Altogether, 22 separate watercraft are included: three modules for each of the four causeway ferrys, plus ten modules making up the RR/DF. After exercise of these items, the total cumulative contract amount will be $377,428,339. Work will be performed at the Marinette, Wis.

Aker Kvaerner Acquires RR Offshore

Aker Kvaerner has entered into an agreement which gives full ownership of Finnish RR Offshore and ends the co-operation between Aker Kvaerner and its former Russian partner ST Holdings. As part of the agreement, Aker Kvaerner sells its shares in the Astrakhan Korabel yard to ST Holding. The parties have agreed to not disclose any transaction values. RR Offshore OY is a Finnish engineering and project management company with considerable experience in Russia and the North Caspian region. From before, Aker Kvaerner owned 26 per cent of the shares in the company. Aker Kvaerner is actively positioning itself for future projects in Russia and the Caspian region.

RR to Study Propulsion System Corrosion

Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Inc., Walpole, Mass., is being awarded a $7,030,097 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for research and development of Nickel Boron (NiB) Coatings for Naval Propulsion Systems to minimize corrosion. Work will be performed in Pascagoula, Miss., (75 percent) and Stuart, Fla. (25 percent), and work is expected to be completed by Jan. 2013. Contract funds in the amount of $3,563,860 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured and advertised on the Internet as a Broad Agency Announcement; 67 white papers were received, 19 proposals were requested, and 17 awards have been made. The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, D.C., is the contracting activity (N00024-08-C-4200).
