MetalCraft Delivers High-performace RIBs in Mississippi

Shipbuilder MetalCraft Marine said it delivered two 34-foot high performance patrol RIBs to be used by the Mississippi Department of Natural Resources Police in the coastal bay areas and offshore checking on commercial and sport fishing compliance.Each boat is equipped with triple Suzuki 300-horsepower outboards, enabling the vessels to reach speeds up to 64 miles per hour.According to MetalCraft, the Interceptor hulls are noted for their "Soft Dry Ride", with a fine entry which easily parts the waves and makes the boat very quiet.The vessels feature a robust T-top and supporting structure…

Trelleborg Invests in High-Speed Fender Test Rig

Trelleborg’s marine operation is in the process of building and installing a custom-made high-speed test rig, capable of testing both rubber and foam fenders. The rig is being built in Trelleborg’s new Berryville facility in Virginia, U.S., and represents a substantial investment for the business. Robert Allan Designs Tug for Rio Tinto

The Pilbara Apollo, the latest addition to the RAstar 3200 escort tug series was delivered to its owners, Rio Tinto Ltd., earlier this year. The vessel was constructed at Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry Co. in Turkey and will operate at Rio Tinto’s iron ore export facilities at Cape Lambert (Port Walcott) and Dampier, Australia. The Pilbara Apollo is the first of six new RAstar 3200 tugs to be delivered to Rio Tinto as part of this contract. The tugs will assist very large ore carriers in berthing and un-berthing at exposed, open water berths in severe wind and wave conditions.

New Commercial Floating Piers in Staten Island

Davit Engineering, a division of Davit Sales Inc. recently completed the design and construction drawings for two new floating piers in Staten Island for receiving loaded barges of paper from NYC for recycling. The piers are 140 ft. long x 6 ft. wide floating structures the first of which commissioned just days prior to the worst storm in the New York area’s history, Hurricane Sandy. Berthing a Submarine

Berthing a fast attack or fleet ballistic missile (Trident) submarine requires skilled vessel handling, knowledge and practice. The larger Trident subs are 560 ft. long with a beam of 42 ft. and displace almost 17,000 tons. New RAmparts 3200 for Signet

Signet Weatherly is the latest RAmparts 3200 Class ASD from the design board of Robert Allan Ltd. Recently delivered to her proud owner; Signet Maritime Corporation, the tug will be based in Corpus Christi, Texas. Named after the 1962 America’s Cup winning 12 metre yacht “Weatherly”, the new vessel will enhance Signet’s Gulf operations, providing ship-assist capabilities along with long range towing. The RAmparts 3200 design is configured for low-manning operation, with a high standard of machinery automation.

AOS Power: First RAmpage 4500 Class Support Tug

In December, 2011, the tug AOS Power was delivered to her owners Atlantic Maritime Group, Sharjah, UAE. Designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada and built by GMG Shipbuilding & Heavy Industry Co. Ltd., China, AOS Power is the very first of the RAmpage 4500 class design. This vessel is fully equipped for anchor handling, ship-assist, long distance towing operation, fire-fighting, deck cargo transfers, personnel transfer and other offshore support duties. The vessel has been outfitted for a crew of up to 25 people, although normal operating crew is 15.

Utility Catamaran Strait Shooter Launched

Incat Crowther announced the launch of a 91.8 ft Utility Catamaran at Richardson Devine Marine in Tasmania. Built for Carpentaria Contracting, Strait Shooter is an evolution of Limitless, launched in 2009, which has been a great success for its operator. Strait Shooter builds on the design features of Limitless, and adds some more features specifically developed for Carpentaria Contracting. The greatest change has been to implement a large propeller tunnel to reduce the draft of the vessel.
