2nd WISTA India Forum Receives Strong Support

On 23rd January 2015, the Royal Mumbai Yacht Club saw around a hundred dignified members of the shipping fraternity gather for the second WISTA Annual Forum, an event that lived up to the industry’s expectations. The select crowd included long-term supporters of WISTA India and WISTA members, as well as members who flew down from Delhi, Chennai, Cochin and Bengaluru especially for this conference. The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp by key dignitaries – Hon Mr Deepak Shetty, the  DG of Shipping who was the chief guest of the evening, Mr Sanjay Bhaty, from Kandla Port trust, Mr.Umesh Grover, CEO of INSA and Ms Sanjam Sahi Gupta, the President of WISTA India and Board member of WISTA International.

WISTA Russia Formed to Support Women in Shipping

WISTA President Karin Orsel announced the formation and accreditation of WISTA Russia, which has been developed under the leadership of prominent Russian executives. The inauguration of this National WISTA Association (NWA) was held during a post RUMI (Russian Union of Marine Insurers) conference reception on November 21 in Moscow. The Russian National WISTA Association becomes the 33rd Member of the WISTA organization. "I am proud to be present for the birth of this important WISTA Member," stated Ms. Orsel.

GAC Sri Lanka has been appointed as the sole authorised agent for multimodal transport operator Sarjak Container lines Pvt (Ltd), handling all their shipping and Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) activities in the country. GAC appointed as Sarjak's Liner Agent in Chennai

GAC India has entered into an agency agreement with Mumbai-based Sarjak Container Lines Pvt Ltd (Sarjak), to handle its operations requirement in Chennai. This latest development comes twelve months after its appointment to manage Sarjak's operations in Delhi and northern India. Sarjak specializes in the transportation of Over Dimensioned Cargo (ODC) in containers, by its fleet of hard top, open top, flat rack, super rack and GP containers. Sarjak's substantial asset base of special equipment enables the company to handle shipments that cannot fit into normal containers. The main cargoes handled from the region include transformers, boilers, chiller units, pressure vessels, sugar manufacturing plants, oil well equipment, and various engineering goods.

KOTC to Order Mega Vessels

According to AFP, Kuwait Oil Tanker Co. (KOTC) will soon order four giant oil tankers expected to cost some 500 million dollars, chairman Abdullah Al Rumi said on Wednesday. The new order was approved by the national oil conglomerate Kuwait Petroleum Corp. (KPC), and will be offered in a tender soon, Rumi told the official KUNA news agency. Each has a capacity of 300,000 tonnes and will replace old tankers in the company’s fleet of 24 vessels. KOTC signed three contracts in 2004 with South Korean companies to build seven new vessels at a cost of 540 million dollars. Delivery is expected to start next year. They include two very large crude carriers (VLCC), two liquefied petroleum gas tankers and three petroleum products vessels. Source: Business Times
