EGS Connects Dutch Deepsea Terminals

The intermodal service provider European Gateway Services (EGS) offers network of connections between all deepsea terminals Maasvlakte Rotterdam with Nuremberg in Netharlands.The Rotterdam - Nuremberg rail shuttle is now already calling at all the deepsea terminals at the Maasvlakte (1 and 2).Three times a week, EGS provides a rail connection between Rotterdam and Nuremberg in the state of Bavaria and vice versa. CMA CGM Launches Rhine Valley Rail

The CMA CGM Group has introduced Rhine Valley Rail, a new rail service connecting the Port of Rotterdam with the German hinterland. The train connections are aligned with CMA CGM’s deep-sea services.Operated in cooperation with TFG, the Rhine Valley Rail service will officially start with its first train departure in Dortmund on 18 October. MSC Gulsun Arrives Rotterdam Port

World's largest container ship the MSC Gülsün arrived yesterday (August 03) at the APMT 2 terminal quay in the Rotterdam harbour and will remain there until Thursday afternoon.The vessel, 400 meters long and with a beam of 62 meters, has a 23,756-TEU (twenty-foot standard containers) capacity, making it the world’s largest container ship.MSC Gülsün is the first container ship capable of transporting 24 containers side by side across the breadth of its hull. North West Central Corridor Gets Terminals

The inland terminals CTU in Lelystad, HOV Harlingen and Westerman Multimodal Logistics in Hasselt joined the North West Central Corridor in June.The new partnership of deep-sea terminals, inland terminals and inland shipping companies on the Amsterdam-Utrecht-Rotterdam route was established in February 2019.The number of inland terminals connected to the North West Central Corridor has increased in three months from five to eight terminals, resulting in a total shipment volume of 6,500 TEU per week. Inland Shipping Joins Forces in Amsterdam

CMA CGM Adds Weekly Call at Kotka

CMA CGM is set to add a weekly call at Kotka on its St Petersburg Shuttle A service. " CMA CGM is pleased to announce that its St Petersburg Shuttle A service will call at Kotka (Finland) on a weekly basis from December 15th, 2016," says a statement from the company.   The new rotation and terminals will be the following: Antwerp (Gateway) – Rotterdam (Euromax/RWG/Uniport) – St Petersburg (Bronka/FCT/CTSP) – Kotka (Steveco) - Antwerp (Gateway).    In Kotka, Steveco has port terminals at the Mussalo and Hietanen Harbours.

Rotterdam Unions, Container Firms Reach Deal on Job Security

The trade unions FNV and CNV Vakmensen, the Rotterdam container companies and the Port of Rotterdam Authority concluded consultations on employment in the container industry. The trade unions will present the outcome of the negotiations to their members with favourable advice. The most important part of the negotiation result is that the companies involved will offer a job security guarantee until 1 July 2020, to those of their employees who already had an employment contract for an indefinite period by 1 January 2015 and who are covered by a CLA of the corresponding company. Furthermore, the Port Senior Fit Scheme will be extended to employees aged 60 years. It has also been agreed that the 120 employees of ailing RPS will be offered a customised solution.

Rotterdam Implements Paperless Container Transfers

In the near future, a physical Customs document will no longer be required to transfer containers from one Maasvlakte terminal to the other within the Port of Rotterdam. Participating terminals APMT, ECT and RWG have made agreements with the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration for a so-called ‘paperless transfer’ system, which, beginning July 1, 2016, will considerably reduce the administrative workload – particularly for shipping lines – and simplify the exchange of containers between Maasvlakte’s five deep-sea terminals.

Rotterdam Box Terminal Union Plan 24-hour Strike

Workers at container terminals at the port of Rotterdam's Maasvlakte harbour were due to begin a 24-hour strike on Thursday afternoon, a union official said. The port said the strike, which followed a breakdown in talks with port authorities aimed at averting feared job losses due to modernisation projects, would affect seven ships at the port's terminals. Workers plan to down tools from 1415 GMT at Maersk's APM Terminal as well as at the ECT, Euromax and RWG terminals, officials said.   Reporting by Thomas Escritt

Cargill wins Port Community Award

The agro-industrial concern Cargill has won the 5th Port Community Award. The agro-industrial concern with branches in Amsterdam and Rotterdam also won a prize in the category shipping companies/ship’s agents/agents during the festive awards ceremony. Other prize winners were Ritra Cargo Holland (category freight forwarders/exporters/importers), APM Terminals Maasvlakte ll and RWG (category terminals/hinterland terminals) and Frankenbach from Germany (category hinterland carriers). The Port Community Award rewards the company that distinguishes itself most in its exchange of information via the Port Community System of the Dutch ports. ITF Repeats Call for Rotterdam Dialogue as Dockers Protest

The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation)  called for all-party talks on the future of the port of Rotterdam, as dockers refused to unload a ship loaded at the new Rotterdam Gateway (RWG) terminal. RWG, unlike other companies at the port, refuses to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement with port workers, who are represented by the FNV Havens union. On Sunday the vessel Alsvin loaded containers at RWG, in what was believed to be a test operation. It then moved to the ECT terminal in Rotterdam to discharge them. Dockers refused to unload them.

Hamburg Süd’s Cap San Lorenzo docked for the first time in the port of Rotterdam on Thursday, September 4. Rotterdam, Bavaria Launch Intermodal Research

Good connections between seaports and the hinterland are vital for optimizing the logistic chain. The Port of Rotterdam Authority and the Bayernhafen Gruppe are therefore working together in the ‘Bayrolo’ research program. The aim of this cross-border project is to further improve intermodal container transport between Bavaria and the port of Rotterdam. By taking containers off the road and shipping them by barge and rail, cargo flows will be able to continue growing and the port of Rotterdam will be able to offer the German inland ports an alternative seaport.

Rolls Royce Sells Energy Gas Turbine Business To Siemens

Britain's Rolls-Royce Plc said it would sell its energy gas turbine and compressor business to German conglomerate Siemens AG for 785 million pounds($1.33 billion). Rolls, whose energy gas turbine and compressor business has around 2,400 employees, said Siemens would pay a further 200 million pounds for a 25 year licensing agreement granting access to relevant Rolls-Royce aero-derivative technology. "This agreement will give the Energy business greater opportunities as part of a much larger energy company and allows Rolls-Royce to concentrate on the areas of business where we can add most value," Rolls-Royce Chief Executive, John Rishton said in a statement.

Project to Build a New Container Terminal

The European Union will co-finance to the tune of €5 million from the TEN-T Program a project to build a state-of-the-art multimodal container terminal at the Port of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The future Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal will aim to have the highest modal shift ratio for a container terminal in Europe. The project, which was selected for funding under the 2011 TEN-T Annual Call, involves the construction of the new Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal at the Port of Rotterdam.

Cavotec Wins Netherlands, Malaysia, Terminal Equipment Contracts

Cavotec wins two large orders for electrical power and spreader cable reels for ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes. These orders follow a recent announcement that the Group is to supply similar equipment to the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The first of the two new orders is from ZPMC, the world’s largest port equipment manufacturer, for power and spreader reels for 14 STS cranes for the Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) terminal in The Netherlands. RWG is a major port development that will offer a 1,150-metre deep-sea quay, and annual handling capacity of some 2.35 million TEUs. The terminal is scheduled to enter service in the second half of 2014.
