In the wake of Hurricane Lane, Cargo Ops Resume in Hawaii

With the arrival of the container ship Horizon Pacific, Pasha Hawaii resumed operations at Pier 51, the first ship to arrive in Honolulu Harbor after Pasha Hawaii received an all clear to resume cargo operations from the U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii Department of Transportation following the passage of Hurricane Lane over the Hawaiian Islands.On Wednesday, August 22, the U.S. Coast Guard granted temporary approval for Horizon Pacific to dock at Pier 51, allowing limited discharge of the ship’s cargo.

Crowley to Manage 4 Jones Act Ships for Pasha

Crowley Maritime Corp.’s ship management group has been awarded a new contract with Sunrise Operations LLC, a subsidiary of The Pasha Group, of San Rafael, Calif., for the operation, crewing and maintenance of four Jones Act ships operating between the U.S. West Coast and Hawaii. The news follows the recent announcement that Pasha Hawaii, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Pasha Group, a family-owned global logistics company, will assume operations for all of Horizon Lines’ Hawaii business, including these four U.S.-flagged containerships.

U.S. DOJ: Guilty Plea in Oil Pollution Case

U.S. Shipping Company Convicted For Oil Pollution On High Seas. Horizon Lines, LLC was sentenced Tuesday in front of the Honorable Richard Seeborg after pleading guilty to felony charges concerning violations of international and national oil pollution laws that occurred on a large container ship called the S/S Horizon Enterprise, United States Attorney Melinda Haag announced. As part of a plea agreement, the company was ordered to pay $1,500,000, with $500,000 of the monies going to environmental projects in the San Francisco Bay area. Horizon Lines pled guilty to two counts of making false statements based on their knowing failure to maintain an accurate Oil Record Book in which all transfers and discharges of oil and oily waste are required to be recorded.

Horizon Lines reaches agreement with U.S. Department of Justice on Environmental Record-Keeping Incident. Horizon Lines Awarded for Safety, Stewardship

Horizon Lines, Inc. (NYSE: HRZ), an American domestic ocean shipping company, has received recognition from the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for its record of safety and stewardship. CSA presented Horizon Lines with the Jones F. Devlin Awards for safety at the Chamber's recent Annual Ship Safety Awards luncheon, which recognizes the men and women responsible for safe ship operations. Self-propelled merchant vessels that have operated for two full years or more without a crewmember losing a full turn at watch because of an occupational injury are eligible for the award. The awards were presented to the Horizon Challenger (4 years), Horizon Eagle (2 years), Horizon Hunter (2 years), and Horizon Spirit (2 years).
