Lloyd’s Register Issues AiP for Estonian State Fleet’s Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Ferry

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to Estonian State Fleet for hydrogen fuel-cell ferry designed by Finnish ship design and engineering company Deltamarin.The zero-emissions ferry is to be operated between the Estonian mainland and the islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, on the Virtsu-Kuivastu and Rohuküla-Heltermaa routes, which connect the Baltic nation to its two largest islands.As part of the certification, LR approved the current stage of the design process to be suitable for further design…

Baltic Workboats to Build Multipurpose Vessel for Estonia's State Fleet

Baltic Workboats announced it recently signed a contract to design and construct a new multipurpose vessel for scheduled delivery to the Estonian State Fleet in 2026.The new workboat will be deployed for regular buoy tender works, maintenance of waterways, scientific research, pollution monitoring and response and search and rescue missions in Estonian waters.Notably, the vessel will be Estonia’s first 100% alternatively fueled workboat that will use sustainable biomethane as the main fuel.

Baltic Workboats to Build Autonomous Warships

A consortium led by Estonian shipbuilder Baltic Workboats (BWB) has won a funding of 95 million euros in the European Defence Fund competition to create a new type of naval platform for European fleets.The initiative, called EUROGUARD, aims to develop a modular and semi-autonomous surface vessel platform with a remote control system that could be used across Europe. Estonia Blocks $1.9B Offshore Wind Project

The Estonian government has refused to start the permitting process for the building of a $1.9 billion, 600-MW offshore wind farm off the west coast of the island of Saaremaa, citing national security concerns.The Estonian developer Saare Wind Energy OU had been drawing up plans for four years and had applied for a 50-year building permit for 100 six-megawatt turbines off the island of Saaremaa, said a report in Bloomberg.The wind farm was to consist of 100 turbines of 6 MW each 10 to 27 kilometers off the western coast of the island. Incat Crowther announced the launch of the 24m Catamaran Ro-Pax Ferry, Runö. The vessel was recently launched by Baltic Workboats in Estonia and successfully completed sea trials.
