Offshore Rig & FPSO Design: Bentley Buys Ultramarine's MOSES Business

Bentley Systems Inc. has acquired the MOSES software business from Ultramarine, Inc. Used around the world, MOSES is the premier analysis and simulation software for complex projects involving the transportation and installation of offshore structures, including the launch of jackets and floatover of topsides. Featuring functionality covering the full range of stability, motions, and mooring of single or multiple floating bodies, MOSES has become the mainstay for professional engineers to reliably meet stringent offshore code requirements, reduce project risks, and increase safety. With this newest addition to its portfolio, Bentley says it will further strengthen its leadership in the accelerating offshore energy industry following its acquisition in March 2011 of SACS…

New Offshore Motion Prediction, Stability & Modelling Software

Bentley’s latest SACS release provides advanced visualization of motions prediction & expanded offshore wind turbine analysis. SACS version 5.5 is software that expands installation capabilities, integrates new wind turbine platform design functionality, and introduces floating analysis for offshore vessels. Leveraging Australia-based Bentley’s November 2011 acquisition of Perth-based FormSys and its Maxsurf technology, these SACS release enhancements provide integrated workflows between offshore vessel modeling and structural analysis of motion induced loads, unmatched visualization of vessel motions – including real-time rendered animation of vessel motions in irregular wave conditions – and best-in-class coverage of offshore steel design codes optimized for large, complex structures.

DNV Software introduces new 6.3 version of Sesam GeniE, to provide strength analysis through the entire lifecycle of fixed offshore structures. To avoid catastrophes at oil or gas field operations it is vital that a thorough strength analysis is done before a structure is operative. The effects of wave, wind and fatigue determine the duration and profitability of the operation, and correct calculations are critical. Efficient strength analysis throughout all stages of the life cycle of an offshore structure – construction…

Bentley Acquires FormSys

Bentley Systems acquired FormSys, based in Perth, Australia. This software development company has a proven, 20-year track record in 3D design, analysis, and construction software for structural engineering, offshore engineering, and naval architecture. The acquisition will expand Bentley’s SACS offerings for the design and analysis of floating structures, further extending the company’s reach in the offshore energy market. SACS is an integrated finite element structural analysis suite of programs that uniquely supports the design, fabrication, installation, operations, and maintenance of offshore structures, including oil platforms and wind farms. Thirty-eight years of focus on these specialized requirements have made SACS the analysis mainstay for most of the world’s offshore engineers.
