Survitec, MRT Collaborate on Constant Wear Lifejacket

Bollinger Wins SCA Safety Award

Bollinger Shipyards was presented the 2016 “Award for Excellence in Safety” for the 12th consecutive year by the Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) on May 18, 2017 during SCA’s Annual General Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C. This award is given to member companies with the lowest total recordable incident rates (TRIR) based on a quarterly injury and illness survey conducted by the Association. On winning the award, Ben Bordelon, Bollinger’s president and CEO said, “Bollinger Shipyards has earned the SCA Award for Excellence in Safety for the 12th consecutive year.

Orca Energy ESS to Power Fish Farm Support Vessel

Grovfjord Mek. Verksted AS (GMV) has selected Corvus Energy as the supplier of the lithium ion based energy storage system (ESS) for a fish farm support vessel called GMV ZERO. GMV will utilize Corvus’ next generation Orca Energy ESS to support the vessel’s entire energy requirements for zero emission fish farm operation. Orca Energy is part of the recently announced Orca ESS product line from Corvus which is specifically designed for maritime applications. “Our teams take great pride in the fact that our products are being applied to projects such as this one, with the goal of zero emission operations”, said Roger Rosvold, Sales Manager at Corvus. “In the past, there was a trade off between financial feasibility and environmental responsibility.

SPE Award for Survitec Group

Two safety and survival systems developed for use in the UK’s offshore sector by the Survitec Group were recognised for their industry-leading importance when they won the Safety Innovations Award in the recent Offshore Achievement Award organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). The Safety Innovations Award recognises excellence in innovative technology and products that have been developed in the UK and which contribute to offshore safety. In particular, it looks at how they contribute to the overall objective of improving individual, plant or operational safety in the offshore energy sector (oil and gas and all forms of renewables).

Marine Insurance & the “Human Factor”

Insurance underwriters of diversified maritime exposures see a wide variety of approaches taken by vessel operators to manage human error to control risk. They have found through experience that the majority of hull and liability claims can be traced to a breakdown in preparedness and decision-making. Maritime operators that set a high bar and build well-constructed methods of managing the human element of risk – and those that monitor it closely – can save significantly on insurance costs due to lower frequency and severity of claim activity. Managing the human factor is the most difficult of all risk management processes. We are all fallible and prone to error.

Offshore Achievement Awards Open for Entries

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen Section has announced that entries are now open for the 2014 Offshore Achievement Awards. The awards, which are hosted by SPE Aberdeen with the support of principal sponsor TAQA, have recognized outstanding success and innovation in the oil and gas sector for over 27 years. Last year’s awards ceremony attracted a record attendance of more than 530 industry professionals. This year SPE Aberdeen has introduced two new categories, the Inspiring Leader and the Environmentalist awards.

TAS wins Offshore Achievement Award for Safety Innovation

Houlder and BMT Nigel Gee announced that their jointly developed Turbine Access System (TAS) has won the Safety Innovations Award at the 27th Offshore Achievement Awards organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), Aberdeen Section. The award was presented to Frederic Perderix, Houlder Chief Technical Officer by Walter Thain Vice President, Operations for Petrofac, the Award sponsors, at the dinner in Aberdeen on March 21. TAS is a patented motion compensated platform that provides a safe and stable point of access to the Turbine, Offshore Structures or other vessels.

Industry Talent Recognized in the Offshore Achievement Awards

The offshore industry’s highest achievers were recognized at the 2013 Offshore Achievement Awards, with Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, picking up the Significant Achievement accolade. The 27th awards ceremony, which saw a record attendance of 530 guests, took place at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre and was hosted by Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges. The industry’s top talent was celebrated in categories which included Great Large and Great Small Company, Safety Innovations and Emerging Technology.

OAA 2013 Are Open for Entries

Following a successful re-launch last year, the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen Section is again hosting the Offshore Achievement Awards with the support of main sponsor TAQA Bratani. This year will see the ceremony move to the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre to meet the huge demand for spaces at the event in March 2012. Over 70 entries were received for the 2012 awards, which took place at Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen in front of around 400 people. Winners included Expro Group, AMEC and 3sun Group, with Professor Alex Kemp picking up the Lifetime Achievement award.

Shell Orders from Survival Craft

Shell UK Ltd placed an order for two new 72 seat lifeboats from Survival Craft Inspectorate Ltd in Aberdeen. The lifeboats will replace two 56 seat lifeboats aboard the Anasuria FPSO operating in the North Sea. The new lifeboats will use the vessel’s existing davits but due to their design, will enable an increase in crew carrying capacity.
