US Sub Tender Repairs Completed

A 40-year-old submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) has completed sea trials and returned to Guam following extensive boiler repairs and testing.During sea trials, the crew, comprising uniformed Sailors and Military Sealift Command (MSC) civilian mariners, participated in more than three days of events and operations at sea to test the readiness of the ship. The crew participated in abandon ship drills, man overboard drills, engineering exercises, damage control training and countermeasure wash-down testing.“December has been a very busy and productive month for our team,” said Capt.

US Navy Ends 'ENDS' on Ships

Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (USFF) and Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT) released a joint message April 14, that suspends the use, possession, storage and charging of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) aboard ships, submarines, aircraft, boats, craft and heavy equipment. The prohibition applies to Sailors, Marines, Military Sealift Command civilians and any personnel working on or visiting those units. The Fleet commanders implemented this policy to protect the safety and welfare of Sailors and to protect the ships, submarines, aircraft and equipment. The prohibition will be effective 30 days from the release of the policy May 14, and will remain in effect until a final determination can be made following a thorough analysis.

US Submarine USS Frank Cable in Palawan

US submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) arrived in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan on Saturday, June 11, for a "scheduled port visit," according to the US embassy in Manila. The visit will allow the ship’s sailors and military sealift command mariners to enjoy some rest and relaxation. Frank Cable, a ship that provides repairs and support to submarines, is commanded by Capt. Drew St. John and has more than 500 sailors and civilian mariners on board. The presence of the submarine tender ship coincided with the visit of a US-based defense and security think-tank to Western Command (Wescom) in Palawan to observe and see the actual implementation of the Philippines-US Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA).

Mount Whitney Departs Batumi, Georgia

The U.S. 6th Fleet command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) departed Batumi, Georgia, Oct. 18 after completing a successful port visit. While in Batumi, Sailors had the opportunity to participate in community relation projects, provide tours of Mount Whitney, participate in multiple sporting events and engage with Georgian coast guard members during military-to-military engagements. “Our port visit in Batumi, Georgia was absolutely fantastic. The opportunity to engage and interact professionally, socially and athletically with our Georgian counterparts was invaluable towards advancing an enduring bilateral partnership; a partnership committed to security and stability in the region.” – Capt. US Navy Helps Secure Olympic Games

With the threat of terror at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, the United States is prepped with vessels in the Black Sea. The U.S. Navy deployed two ships to the Black Sea to help protect against the threat of terror attacks surrounding the Games. According to a Navy release, the U.S. 6th Fleet flag ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), with 300 Sailors and Military Sealift Command civil service mariners onboard, arrived in the Black Sea Feb. 4 to conduct maritime security operations, and USS Taylor (FFG 50), with a crew of approximately 200 Sailors, arrived in the Black Sea Feb.
