Optimarin Expands into China to Boost BWTS Availability for Shipbuilders

Optimarin is setting up a manufacturing base in China to boost the availability of its ballast water treatment system (BWTS) for the Asian shipbuilding market. Siemens Exits Power, Gas, Renewable Biz

German conglomerate Siemens AG said it will spin off and give up its majority stake in its energy division and merge it with separately listed wind turbine supplier Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), creating a new multi-technology global energy powerhouse. The company’s supervisory board announced the spinoff on May 7 as part of its Vision 2020+ strategy concept. Partners Aim to Enhance LNG Transfer Efficiency

Trelleborg’s marine systems operation and Australasian engineering consultancy Synertec have formed a strategic partnership to meet demand for more accurate and efficient liquefied natural gas (LNG) custody transfer. MacGregor Acquires Rapp Marine

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed an agreement to acquire Rapp Marine Group (RMG) in order to strengthen its offering for the fishery and research vessel segment. The enterprise value of the acquisition was approximately €16 million ($19 million). With RMG, MacGregor is able to expand upon its existing portfolio which already includes various deck handling equipment, such as cranes and booms, to now offer complete solutions with advanced winches and related control systems. "MacGregor has a strategic interest in widening services for customers within fishery and research segment," said Michel van Roozendaal, President, MacGregor. "Products needed for these demanding vessel types have to be safe, robust and reliable with a good after sales network.

Inmarsat Provides Pacific Northwest, Bering Sea Coverage for Dunlap

Mobile satellite communications company Inmarsat said it has partnered with satellite communications provider Network Innovations and maritime transportation provider Dunlap Towing to install Fleet One across its fleet of 12 vessels. For Dunlap, the Dutch Harbor and Pacific Coast routes in Alaskan waters have traditionally been challenging and its existing service did not offer the reliability required to transmit important operating and safety reports, communicate back to shore or make critical inter-fleet voice calls, according to Inmarsat.

New Controls, Display Systems for CXO300 Outboard

British company Cox Powertrain said it will announce two exclusive new partnerships at this year’s Seawork International and showcase the engine control and display systems that have been chosen for the company’s high powered diesel outboard engine, the CXO300, ahead of its launch next year. Italian controls specialist Xenta Systems has been chosen to supply the engine controls system, which incorporates the joystick, throttle for the CXO300. Murphy by Enovation Controls will supply its new PowerView1200 display screen offering full-featured engine diagnostics on a powerful display screen.

MAN Diesel & Turbo to Buy 40% Stake in Aspin Kemp

MAN Diesel & Turbo said it has contractually agreed to acquire a 40 percent participation in Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA), a Canadian company specializing in power supply, energy management and drive systems for marine applications. Jointly, the companies will offer turnkey integrated power, propulsion and automation solutions. AKA co-founder Jason Aspin will remain with the company as Managing Director and shareholder, while the other founding partner, Neale Kemp will sell his shares in AKA and retire from active business operations. MAN Diesel & Turbo said the investment is part of its strategic development program, "Basecamp 3000+", launched in 2016.

SMM 2014 Witnesses Record Turnout

Wärtsilä Offers Two New Auxiliary Engines

Wärtsilä is expanding its engine portfolio with the introduction of two additional auxiliary engines, the Wärtsilä Auxpac 16 and the Wärtsilä Auxpac 32. Both the Auxpac 16 and the Auxpac 32 are pre-engineered gensets with a turbocharged four-stroke engine having direct fuel injection and charge air cooling and provide the electrical power onboard all types and sizes of ships. Marine Lubricant Suppliers in Global Supply Link-up

Aegean Marine Petroleum Network and SK Lubricants sign an agreement that will allow Aegean to increase its sales volumes in the marine lubricants market and SK Lubricants to extend its global sales network. Under the global cooperation agreement between the companies, Aegean will supply and deliver marine lubricant products to customers of SK Lubricants in the Aegean lubricants network, which currently covers 45 countries and 550 ports worldwide, and SK Lubricants will provide Aegean's customers in South Korea with marine lubricant products. Genset Manufacturer to be Taken Over by Tognum MTU

Specialist manufacturer of propulsion and power systems, Tognum, has received the approval of the competition authorities for the takeover of the Bavarian manufacturer of power generator sets Aggretech. This means that 75.1 per cent of the shares in Aggretech will be transferred to Tognum this week. It is planned that the new Tognum subsidiary will be renamed to MTU Onsite Energy Systems GmbH. The Board of Management of Aggretech and later Managing Directors of the new company will be Hubert Diener as Chairman and Stephan Hoffmann. Hubert Diener was previously the Head of the Special Production Department at Tognum’s subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen and Stefan Hoffmann was CFO of Aggretech.
