Crowley Commits to Net-zero GHG Emissions by 2050

As the maritime industry collectively struggles to chart the course toward decarbonization, Crowley today committed to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across all scopes by 2050, pursuing a path aligned with the latest climate science to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.What this means is an overall reduction of 4.2 million metric tons of greenhouse gases per year for the maritime and logistics giant.“Crowley is on a mission to become the most sustainable and innovative maritime and logistics company in the Americas,” said Tom Crowley, chairman and CEO.

Researchers Prepare Oceanic Trash Clean-Up Plan

Researchers returned on Sunday from mapping and sampling a massive swirling cluster of trash floating in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, as the Dutch-borne crew works to refine a clean-up strategy it will roll out globally. The crew of the Ocean Cleanup, backed by volunteers in sailboats, ventured to areas of the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch", a swirling mass of human-linked debris spanning hundreds of miles of open sea where plastic outnumbers organisms by factors in the hundreds. The debris, concentrated by circular, clockwise ocean currents within an oblong-shaped "convergence zone", lies near the Hawaiian Islands, about midway between Japan and the U.S. West Coast. The trash ranges from microscopic pieces of plastic to large chunks.

Laborde Builds up Industrial Sales Team

Helping round out its industrial salesforce, Laborde Products welcomes two new salesmen. Cody Dean will handle industrial engine and equipment sales in southern Louisiana and southern Mississippi, while Chris Wright will respond to the needs of northern Louisiana and northern Mississippi. Dean previously served as territorial manager at Woolf-Harris. He will provide customers with the information needed to select the best diesel engine for on/offshore operations, standby and backup generators and all diesel industrial engines for land or permanent applications.
