First Cavotec MoorMasters in Scandinavia
Global engineering group, Cavotec MSL, has successfully completed commissioning of Scandinavia’s first fully automated vacuum-based mooring system, MoorMaster, with Danish ferry operator Nordic Ferry Services (NFS). MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that moors vessels in seconds, eliminating the need for conventional mooring lines. The system counteracts vessel surge in port caused by changes in wave dynamics. The NFS installation includes two MoorMaster™ units in the port of Hov on the Danish mainland, Jutland, and a further two across the Århus Bugt at Saelvig Port on the island of Samsoe. The units will perform between six and eight mooring operations a day throughout the year.
Greek Oil Tanker Runs Aground
A Greek oil tanker carrying 81,200 tons of crude ran aground in Denmark but there was no immediate danger of an oil spill, authorities said. The Greece-registered Minerva Concert hit rocks off the island of Samsoe in central Denmark, the Danish Navy said. There were no reports of injuries among the crew or damage to the ship. Tugboats would attempt to pull the tanker free Tuesday, under the supervision of an environmental protection vessel, the navy said. The tanker was en route from the Danish port of Fredericia to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, when it ran aground. The Danish Maritime Authority is investigating. Source: Business Week
