MOL Acquires Woodchip Carrier
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced the delivery of the new woodchip carrier, C.S. Bright, which has a cargo hold capacity of about 4.3 million cubic feet, at Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation (President: Takashi Ueda; Head Office: Osaka). Following the delivery ceremony, the vessel left to take on a cargo of wood chips in Australia for Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. The C.S. Bright was designed with a shallow draft while maximizing cargo hold capacity to allow efficient loading of wood chips, which are lightweight and take up a relatively large amount of space. It also features environmental-friendly specifications to cut CO2 emissions, such as a rudder bulb fin to enhance propulsion efficiency and low-friction ship-bottom paint.
NAPA Streamlines Compliance with Class Design Rules
Global maritime software, services and data analysis company NAPA announced the release of new tools and interfaces with class society software to streamline ship design compliance with Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC&OT; formerly known as “harmonized CSR”) from the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). Updates to 3D structural design software, NAPA Steel, and the release of state-of-the-art geometry modeling tool, NAPA Designer, will deliver a shift from 2D to 3D design requirements.
MOL’s Coal Carrier for Tokyo Electric Power
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that the coal carrier Hakutaka, which will serve Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. was delivered at Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation on March 26, 2015. The vessel jointly developed by Sanoyas Shipyard and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with its wide-beam/shallow-draft shape and various safety and energy-saving specifications. It is the 3rd vessel, coming after theAkatsuki, which was delivered in February 2014, and the Soma Maru, which was delivered in July 2014. TheHakutakawill play a central role in coal transportation for TEPCO thermal power plants under a new long-term consecutive voyage service contract.
d’Amico Group Launches its Largest Ship

MOL Coal Carrier to Serve Tohoku Electric Power

(MOL) today announced that the coal carrier Soma Maru, which will serve Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., was delivered at Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation on July 17, 2014. The vessel, which was jointly developed by Sanoyas Shipyard and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with its wide-beam/shallow-draft shape and various safety and energy-saving specifications. It is a sister vessel to the Akatsuki, which was delivered in February of this year.
Post-Panamax Coal Carrier Delivered to MOL
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced the delivery of the Akatsuki, the first 104,000 DWT class Post-Panamax coal carrier, which was jointly developed with Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation and built at the Sanoyas Shipbuilding Mizushima Shipyard. This new ship type was designed to optimize the transport of coal for power companies in Japan. MOL plans to add these advanced, efficient vessels to its fleet in succession. The wide breadth and shallow draft configuration is ideal for loading/discharging at ports where draft is limited.
