Boluda Names Javier Fernández Bombín Director of Las Palmas Terminal

Shipping company Boluda Lines’ subsidiary Boluda Maritime Terminals has appointed Javier Fernández Bombín as new director of Boluda Maritime Terminal Las Palmas.He has taken up the new position at Boluda Corporación Marítima today, on 14 January. The terminal is responsible for providing and managing logistics services in the main ports of Spain.Javier Fernández Bombín replaces Javier Climent, who has managed the Las Palmas terminal since 2013. Cruise Ship Tragic Lifeboat Accident: Investigation Report

Transport Malta Marine Safety Unit has released its report on last year's 'MV Thomson Majesty' lifeboat exercise boat fall that killed 5 crew members and injured 3 others. On 10, February 2013, Thomson Majesty arrived in Santa Cruz de La Palma from Las Palmas as part of a seven-day cruise commencing in Tenerife. On board were 1498 passengers and a crew of 594, giving a total number of persons on board of 2092. At around 1030, the ship commenced a general emergency and lifeboat drill for all officers, staff and crew. On completion of the General Emergency Drill, three lifeboats on the outboard (starboard) side were to be lowered to the water and sent away for training purposes. Trimaran Ferry Enters Service

“Benchijigua Express”, the 127 metre high speed trimaran built by Austal for Fred Olsen, S.A. has arrived and entered service in the Canary Islands. Following her handover and departure from Fremantle, Australia on 13 April the vehicle-passenger ferry sailed to Tenerife via Cape Town arriving at 23:00 local time on Thursday 28 April, accomplishing the 9,250 mile journey in 15 days at an impressive average speed, including one scheduled stop, of 25 knots. During the delivery voyage, which included passing the notorious Cape of Good Hope, the vessel encountered severe weather conditions with combined sea and swell of up to eight metres. In the words of the seasoned delivery crew it was the “worst they had ever seen or experienced”.
