The launch yesterday of  the Intelsat 29e, the first of the Intelsat EpicNG high throughput satellites, promises to usher in a new era of "Big Data" in the maritime sector, among others. The satellite was launched from French Guiana aboard an Ariane 5 vehicle. Manufactured by Boeing and equipped with advanced digital payload, Intelsat 29e will bring high throughput capacity in both C- and Ku-band to North and Latin America and the North Atlantic region. Intelsat 29e will be placed into service at 310° East, where it replaces Intelsat 1R.

Intelsat S.A. reported financial results for the 2012 fourth quarter and full year. Intelsat S.A. reported revenue of $672.4 million and a net loss of $3.7 million for the three months ended December 31, 2012. The company also reported Intelsat S.A. EBITDA1, or earnings before net interest, loss on early extinguishment of debt, taxes and depreciation and amortization, of $520.0 million, and Intelsat S.A. Intelsat S.A., a  provider of satellite services, has announced  that Mr. Grant Marais has been appointed Regional Vice President of Africa Sales, effective Jan. 3, 2013. Marais will be responsible for supporting the growth of Intelsat's customers in the region, which includes leading telecommunications and wireless operators, network services providers, and DTH platform operators and broadcasters. Based in Intelsat’s London office, Collett will be responsible for advancing Intelsat’s mobility product line and furthering the company’s leadership role in providing managed services and space-only solutions to the aeronautical, maritime and government sectors. Collett has more than 25 years of industry experience, including 13 years at Inmarsat, where most recently he was Senior Director of Maritime Business.

Satellite investment program progresses with three launches planned for third quarter; Intelsat EpicNG high performance satellite platform establishes leadership with long-term commitments. Intelsat S.A., the world's leading provider of satellite services, reported financial results for the three months ended June 30, 2012. Intelsat S.A. reported revenue of $638.7 million and a net loss of $84.0 million for the three months ended June 30, 2012. The company also reported Intelsat S.A. EBITDAi, or earnings before net interest, loss on early extinguishment of debt, taxes and depreciation and amortization, of $468.3 million, and Intelsat S.A. Adjusted EBITDAi of $492.0 million, or 77 percent of revenue, for the three months ended June 30, 2012.

Under a long-term agreement, MTN will leverage the first Intelsat EpicNG satellite, Intelsat 29e, to provide more than 2 gigabits of capacity for MTN's cruise and yacht customers in the Caribbean. The Intelsat EpicNG platform is a complementary overlay to Intelsat's leading global satellite network. Initially, MTN will utilize capacity on Intelsat's Ku-band mobile global broadband infrastructure. Once Intelsat 29e is launched in 2015, MTN will then partially transition to its custom-designed service on the Intelsat EpicNG platform, enabling MTN to deliver an unprecedented level of throughput in key Caribbean regions, especially for the cruise and yacht sectors.

Intelsat S.A., the world's leading provider of satellite services, today announced that Harris CapRock Communications, a global provider of fully managed communications for remote and harsh environments, will utilize the Intelsat EpicNG platform on Intelsat 29e for advanced fixed and mobile services. Under a multi-year agreement, Harris CapRock will utilize the next- generation Intelsat EpicNG platform to expand its service offerings and offer new applications to its global customers across the energy, maritime and government markets. Harris CapRock currently has Ku-band capacity on multiple satellites on the Intelsat fleet, which will expand to Intelsat 29e when it is launched.

Stratos Global Corporation, provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, announced it has successfully deployed an integrated, broadband crew communications solution for SE Ship Management Pte. Ltd. (SESM), one of Singapore’s leading ship operators and managers. SESM is a subsidiary of SE Shipping Lines Pte. Ltd. (SESL). The Stratos solution includes the deployment of its AmosConnect Crew communications application on the Inmarsat FleetBroadband 150 (FB150) mobile satellite platform. The solution is installed on the SESL vessels SE Pelagica and SE Potentia – both of which are heavy-lift, multipurpose dry cargo vessels that operate worldwide. Inmarsat’s entry-level FB150 service combines a telephone connection with simultaneous IP data at up to 150kbps.
