Seaspan Takes Delivery of New 15,500 TEU Vessel

Seaspan Corporation has taken delivery of Maersk Cleveland, the second of six new SAVER 15,500 TEU series vessels.The ship was delivered from China's Jiangnan Shipyard on November 15.Seaspan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas Corp., announced contracts to build the six ships in March 2021 as part of a raft of new shipbuilding orders.Upon completion, each vessel will enter long-term charters with global liner customers.The series' first vessel, Maersk Charleston, was delivered earlier this year. The series' remaining ships are scheduled for delivery through mid-2024.

The recent delivery of a Marine Travelift 820CII (820 metric ton/1,804,000 lbs. capacity) Mobile Boat Hoist to the Stevens Towing Company, Inc. shipyard located on Yonges Island in South Carolina will transform marine services by alleviating overwhelmed dry dock schedules in the region.Founded in the late 1800s as Stevens Brothers with a single boat, Joseph Stanyarne Stevens and William Yates Stevens transported produce and supplies from Edisto Island to Charleston and many points in between.

Delaware Pilots Order New Launch from Gladding-Hearn

Somerset, Mass. shipbuilder Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation informs it has secured another pilot boat order from the Pilots’ Association of the Bay and River Delaware. The vessel will be the pilots’ association’s fourth Chesapeake Class launch and 11th pilot boat built by Gladding-Hearn since 1957. Delivery of the new pilot boat is scheduled for 2024.With a deep-V hull designed by Ray Hunt Design, the new all-aluminum launch measures 53.6’ overall, with a 17.8’ beam and a 4.9’ draft.

AET Unveils Shuttle Tanker for Long-term Charter to Petrobras

Tanker shipping company AET on Thursday named its newest vessel, Eagle Crato, the final of three Suezmax Dynamic Positioning (DP2) shuttle tankers purpose-built for long-term charter to Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras, based on the agreement signed in February 2020.The Eagle Crato was unveiled at a naming ceremony held at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) Shipyard in Geoje, South Korea. Eagle Crato will be delivered to AET on Friday, and subsequently to Petrobras to commence her operations in the Brazilian Basin in a few weeks…

AET's Petrobras-bound Newbuild Shuttle Tanker Named in South Korea

SHI to Build Six Giant Box Ships for Evergreen

South Korean  shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has signed shipbuilding deals for Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen’s latest ultra-large containerships, valued at a total of USD 920 million.SHI said that  the order was placed for the construction of six of the world’s largest container ships, world’s largest smart, Eco-friendly mega-ships, with a capacity of 23,000 TEUs, by May 2022. SHI said these newbuildings will be 400 m long, 61.5 m wide, 33.2 m high. SHI Wins Order for 2 LNG Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has received an order for the construction of two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.The shipbuilder said in a stock exchange annoucement that it had secured a deal worth KRW 450bn ($381m) with a Bermuda-registered client.The newbuilds are planned to be delivered by the end of June 2022. With the addition of the latest order, SHI has seen its orders for LNG carriers reach 10 units. SHI revealed that its orderbook for 2019 now stands at eleven vessels, including one floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, worth USD 3 billion. According to Pulse news, SHI contracts  accomplishes 38 percent of its annual goal of $7.8 billion.

SHI receives AiP from LR for LNG-fuelled VLCC

The maritime classification society Lloyd's Register (LR) has presented SHI with approval in principle (AiP) for an LNG-fuelled Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) equipped with a 6,000 cubic metre LNG fuel storage tank, a two-stroke dual-fuel diesel engine and an LNG fuel supply system.This AiP was a result of joint development project with SHI named VLCC2020, said a press release from the technical and business services organisation, wholly owned by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation.LR assessed the technical feasibility of the LNG fuel supply system and energy saving technologies, including SAVER Air, a SHI patented air lubrication system…

Shell: A Cost Saver for Chinese RoRos

SHI Wins Order for LNG Carrier Pair from Celsius Tankers

South Korean shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries(SHI) has won a new order to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers from Copenhagen-based Celsius Tankers.The shipbuilder said the first order for two 180,000 cbm LNG Tankers is worth 419 billion won (USD376mln). Samsung Heavy Industries to Build Two LNG Carriers for Celsius Tankers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) booked an order from Denmark’s  Celsius Tankers for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, securing an option for further two vessels.A press release said that SHI won a newbuilding contract for two 180,000㎥ LNG carriers from a European shipowner Celsius Tankers. The price is 187 million USD per vessel. The LNG carriers would be equipped with Mark-Ⅲ Flex type containment system with re-liquefaction to lower BOR. ZF Marine Opens New North America Commercial Craft Center of Competence

The new facility has dedicated transmission and thruster repair facilities, and larger warehouse and training areas. ZF Marine has a long standing presence in Louisiana, opening their first location in the city of St. Rose in 1996. The ever increasing customer base combined with the addition of the commercial thruster product line in 2009 resulted in the need to create a larger physical presence in the region. A comprehensive search of the region resulted in ZF finding a new home at 677 Time Saver Avenue in Elmwood, Louisiana. ZF Marine’s new facility is three times the size of its previous location. The new facility not only houses dedicated transmission and thruster repair facilities, but also a significantly larger warehouse area.

Seaspan Takes Delivery of 11,000 TEU Containership

Seaspan Corporation said it has accepted delivery of the MSC Shuba B, an 11,000 TEU containership that will commence a 17-year fixed-rate bareboat charter with Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC). Upon completion of the bareboat charter period, MSC is obligated to purchase the vessel for a pre-determined amount. The MSC Shuba B, which was constructed at HHIC-PHIL INC., is Seaspan’s first 11,000 TEU SAVER design containership in a series of five ships, all of which are signed to bareboat agreements with MSC. Seaspan also announced that it has entered into fixed-rate time charter contracts with a leading liner for two 10,000 TEU newbuilding containerships currently under construction at Yangzijiang’s shipyards.

Seaspan Declares Q3 Results

Seaspan Corporation announced its financial results for the three and nine months ended September 30, 2016. Revenue edged up thanks to new additions to its fleet, including the delivery of one newbuild vessel during the quarter. GAAP earnings plunged into the red with the company reporting a loss of $184 million, or $1.86 per share, as a result of $202.9 million in non-cash impairment charges it took after writing down the value of some of its smaller vessels. It has raised over $1.5 billion from capital markets, sale-leaseback, and other financing transactions during the first nine months of 2016. Seaspan Starts Fixed-rate Charter with Maersk Line

Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) announced today that it accepted delivery of a 10000 TEU containership, the Maersk Genoa. The new containership, which was constructed at Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., is Seaspan's eleventh 10000 TEU SAVER design containership and fifth delivery in 2016. The Maersk Genoa will commence a five-year, fixed-rate time charter with Maersk Line A/S ("Maersk"). Maersk may extend the charter with two consecutive one-year options.  The ship is the second of a total of two 10000 TEU SAVER design vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to Maersk. The delivery of the Maersk Genoa expands the Company's operating fleet to 89 vessels.

Seaspan Acquires Eighth 14000 TEU Vessel

Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) announced today that it accepted delivery of a 14000 TEU containership, the YM Width. The new containership, which was constructed at CSBC Corporation, Taiwan ("CSBC") is Seaspan's eighth 14000 TEU SAVER design containership and fourth delivery in 2016. This is the second 14000 TEU vessel using Seaspan's fuel-efficient SAVER design constructed at CSBC. The YM Width will commence a ten-year, fixed-rate time charter with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. ("Yang Ming"). Yang Ming may extend the charter for up to an additional two years. The ship is the eighth of a total of nine 14000 TEU SAVER design vessels to be chartered to Seaspan by Yang Ming. The delivery of the YM Width expands the Company's operating fleet to 89 vessels.

Abandoned Yacht Found Off Port Stephens Beach

A yacht with no one on board has been discovered in the ocean in Port Stephens in the Hunter, prompting fears a person may have fallen overboard, as per a report in SMH. The eight-metre yacht was spotted on Tuesday night drifting off Samurai Beach in the Hunter region, 205 kilometers north of Sydney. Police on Wednesday launched a large-scale search for a 48-year-old man from Tasmania who was believed to have been living on the yacht, named FireFly. Just after 6pm, police announced the search will be suspended until 8am on Thursday, but 'due to the conditions of the water, it is unlikely the man was able to survive'. Stephen Leahy, CEO at Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopters, said it appears the man was living on the yacht and "there is a suggestion that he may have fallen overboard".
