Alfa Laval signed an agreement to acquire marine tank cleaning equipment supplier Scanjet.Scanjet has expanded from fixed and portable tank cleaning equipment into intelligent tank management, and its solutions and organization will become part of Alfa Laval per an agreement signed on 16 June 2022.“Scanjet is a tank cleaning innovator with exciting developments in the pipeline,” says Alfa Laval’s Peter Nielsen, President of Marine Separation & Heat Transfer, whose business unit will receive the acquisition.

Scanjet Marine AB and Scanvent ApS are combining product ranges to create what the companies claim to be the most comprehensive in-tank equipment package available for tankers and FPSOs. Scanjet’s current product range consists of tank cleaning equipment, tank management solutions with monitoring, control and alarm system for cargo and service tanks, while Scanvent offers a range VOC efficient dual nozzle high velocity valves, ranging from barges to VLCCs and FPSOs and MSC/Circ. 1324 flame screen upgrade kits spares for most existing p/v valves. Scanjet is has secured substantial orders for its Tank Management and Tank Cleaning products. Scanjet has received orders from Hudong Shipyard in China to equip 5+3 38,000 dwt chemical tankers being built for Stolt-Nielsen with the Scanjet Surveyor Tank Management System. The system will cover monitoring and alarm functions including radar level gauging for all tanks on board, high-level alarms and pressure plus temperature measurement, all of which are integrated in the Surveyor system. In addition, Scanjet is supplying its critical Tank Cleaning system for the vessels, which has been designed to the highest standard to take account of the variety of cargoes that the vessels are being built to transport.

Scanjet Macron has completed a challenging tank level gauging system retrofit onboard Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ MS Hanseatic during the 18-year old vessel’s 13-day dry docking at the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg. The 184-passenger ship Hanseatic is classed as the world’s only Five Star expedition ship, according to Berlitz Cruise Guide 2011. Against a backdrop of rising piracy on the high seas, particularly from Somali-based attackers, marine equipment specialist Scanjet says its SCR 360 APR water cannon Marine Protection System (MPS) is in increasing demand. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) recently confirmed that 2010 was the worst year for pirate attacks on shipping on record. A total of 53 ships were hijacked, while owners reported 445 attacks on vessels in 2010, up 10% on 2009. The human cost was severe, with 1181 crew members taken hostage and eight killed. Scanjet Sales director Bjorn Lundgren says, “After its launch in 2009, the take-up of the Scanjet MPS was slow to begin with, but since the summer of 2010 demand has really exploded.

Based on Norway, Scanjet is a world-leading supplier of tankcleaning-machines (guns) to the marine market with deliveries to VLCC's, product tankers, chemical tankers, drilling rigs and supply vessels. The machines, which cover the tank surface completely by vertical and horizontal rotation of the nozzle, have proven to be - especially in the North Sea - extremely efficient. Traditionally, vessels are equipped with two nozzles machines, which Scanjet has managed to override. The company has developed a new generation of offshore tankcleaning machines with just one nozzle. The machine boasts four different programs (pitch adjustments), which can establish, if needed, a dense track or a coarse/open track, which cleans the tank in approximately three minutes.
