Six Washington Students Earn Maritime Scholarships

The 11th annual Norm Manly Puget Sound Maritime (PSM) / Youth Maritime Training Association (YMTA) Maritime Educational Scholarship competition was held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Compass Course Maritime Training. Bethany Shimasaki from Des Moines and attended Seattle Christian School, volunteers at Seattle Aquarium, and is planning to attend the University of California San Diego, majoring in marine science received a $2,000 scholarship  sponsored by Ocean Peace, Inc. Capuco is Chief Naval Architect of Gibbs & Cox

Gibbs & Cox, Inc., an independent naval architecture and marine engineering firm, announced the appointment of Mr. Benedict P. Capuco as Chief Naval Architect. In this role, Capuco will provide corporate leadership to the company's naval architecture and marine engineering capabilities and solutions across the Gibbs & Cox global portfolio. Prior to this appointment, Capuco served as Vice President and Group Manager of the Platform Solutions Group of Gibbs & Cox, leading full ship design projects including commercial projects, foreign navy projects, and U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard projects, most notably the FREEDOM Class Littoral Combat Ship and the Offshore Patrol Cutter.

Johns Receives 2011 Connie Award From CII

Connie Luncheon Held at The Newark Club, December 5; Stanley Sher Given Lifetime Achievement Recognition. Connie Award recipient is R. Kenneth Johns, former president of Sea-Land Service Inc. The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) presented the 2011 Connie Award to Robert Kenneth (Ken) Johns, former president of Sea-Land Service Inc., for his significant influence in containerization in worldwide trade and transportation. The Connie Awards luncheon was held Monday, December 5 at The Newark (NJ) Club and marked 40 years of Connie Awards. A Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented to Stanley Sher, a maritime attorney in Washington D.C.…

2010 Norm Manly YMTA Scholarship

The Youth Maritime Training Association (YMTA) is a non-discriminating nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting students who wish to pursue careers in the maritime industry including the marine sciences. The YMTA offers an annual scholarship which may be used by students pursuing maritime training and education in community colleges, technical and vocational programs, colleges, universities, maritime academies or other educational institutions. Scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of one $5,000, one $3,000, and two $1,000 in the Spring of 2010.     Must plan to pursue a post-secondary training or educational program leading to a maritime or marine related career.
