Umoe Mandal Unveils New Crew Transfer Vessel

The new WAVECRAFT Voyager 38 X is designed to reduce transit time, improve crew and passenger comfort, safety and efficiency, expand operational envelop and reduce logistical cost, Umoe Mandal said. Voyager 38X incorporates air-cushion catamaran and Surface-Effect-Ship (SES) technologies with a motion control system that compensates for vertical wave motion to offer comfortable transit and safe access to other vessels and installations offshore. The vessel may be outfitted with a gangway and a SeaSpyder personnel transfer system.

Germany Orders LNG Fueled Research Ship

The Fassmer shipyard in Germany is currently cinstructing a new research vessel to be owned by Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH), the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency. The new 75-meter-long ship, the Atair, will replace her 30 year old namesake, and will be the first German research vessel operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel. The engines for the new vessel will be supplied by Wärtsilä, who will also supply exhaust cleaning systems based on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology and the LNGPac system for complete fuel gas handling.

Rolls-Royce Bolsters R&D for MTU Engines

Rolls-Royce Power Systems informs it is investing in the development of the next generation of ecological sound and cost efficient combustion engines at MTU, a brand in the Rolls-Royce Land & Sea division. With the first new test stands entering service today in Friedrichshafen, MTU’s lead site and main R&D location, Rolls-Royce said it has invested some 40 million euros in the new testing facilities at MTU. "This move is making space for new developments in every sense of the word.

Successful MX-Scrubber Testing

MX-Scrubber installation now up and running in full scale test facility by Marine Exhaust Technology, a dedicated Danish supplier of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems for SOx and NOx. As per December 1, 2013 a closed loop Scrubber installation designed for marine applications has been up and running successfully at the Marine Exhaust Technology test facility in Frederikshavn, Denmark. Thus, Marine Exhaust Technology becomes the first supplier in Denmark and among the top three suppliers world wide of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems with operational full scale Scrubber and SCR test facilities…

Wärtsilä: Catalytic Converters for Multipurpose Icebreakers

Wärtsilä was contracted by Finland-based Arctia Offshore Oy to carry out modification work to two of the company's vessels. The contract was signed in September 2011. The turnkey project involves the fitting of combined Wärtsilä NOx Reducer (NOR) and Oxidation Catalysts (OXI) to the MSV Fennica and MSV Nordica, both of which are multi-functional vessels based on a modified icebreaker design. The ships will also be converted to enable the use of Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel fuel. When this conversion work is completed…

Tognum, Hug form JV

To fulfill the substantially lower limits of future emission requirements, additional technologies will be necessary for engine development.
