CMA CGM Renews Sealink VSAT Services
Marlink has been contracted to implement the KeepUp@Sea IT operational platform from Norwegian maritime IT&C experts Palantir on 110 vessels of one of the world’s largest shipping companies, CMA CGM. CMA CGM’s 200 maritime services call at more than 420 ports, covering all five continents. The contract is part of the recent renewal of CMA CGM’s Sealink connectivity services. KeepUp@Sea will be used to standardize, simplify and automate vessel IT-management, improving the efficiency and security of CMA CGM’s IT-operations.
Satcom: Icebreaker Uses Satellite to Break Through Communications Barriers
In Finland and Sweden, a large percentage of commercial trade is transported by sea. During the winter months, this presents something of a challenge, as most of the trade routes are almost completely frozen over. Through a joint cooperation, the Swedish and Finnish Maritime Administrations enlist a fleet of icebreakers — nine vessels that travel the frozen waters to clear the ice and allow commercial ships to pass through. Thanks to these icebreakers, ports in both countries can remain open year-round. Teekay, Boeing To Test High-Speed Internet @ Sea
Connexion by Boeing, a business unit of The Boeing Company, and Teekay Shipping Corporation signed an agreement to launch a maritime trial of the Connexion by Boeing service over the North Atlantic beginning in August 2004. "Teekay is a proven leader in the maritime industry and we are thrilled at the opportunity to demonstrate the value that affordable real-time, high-speed connectivity can bring to their operations at sea," said Connexion by Boeing President Scott Carson. "It has been exhilarating to work with the world's leading aviation manufacturer. What is more exciting however, is the ability to trial their high-speed Internet service at sea solution," said Graham Westgarth, president of Teekay Marine Services.
