SeaKing Delivers Ferry Upgrades for DFDS

SeaKing completed extensive upgrade work on three shortsea ferries operated by DFDS Seaways of Denmark.The four-week project took place at Damen Dunkerque Shipyard in France involving MS Dunkerque Seaways, MS Dover Seaways and MS Delft Seaways.SeaKing Electrical managing director Dave Gillam said a 10-man team of engineering specialists were sent to complete the job.“Work consisted of electrical upgrades to improve entertainment reception to 80 cabins and fitting of VDSs (Variable Speed Drives) to car deck vent fans,” he said. “A total of 16 VDSs were fitted on decks 3, 5 and 10 on each ship.

SeaKing Electrical Wins Windermere Ferry Repair Deal

Birkenhead, Merseyside based maritime engineering company SeaKing Electrical has won a tender from Cumbria County Council to repair the electrics on the council-owned car ferry the Mallard following a fire earlier this year.The ferry’s engine room caught fire in March following a hydraulic leak causing an evacuation of 80 people from the vessel while it was operating on Lake Windermere in England’s Lake District. Search for ONGC Offshore Helicopter Crew Continues

The Indian Navy has widened its search operations for the missing crew members of the Pawan Hans helicopter  (C/s VT-PWA) which crashed off the Mumbai coast on Saturday. The helicopter with seven people on-board, including five Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) officers and two pilots, crashed off the Mumbai coast minutes after it took off for the state-owned company’s oil installation in the Arabian sea on Saturday. According to NDTV report, on the third day of search in the high seas, the rescuers located the last remaining body - of the missing pilot. Earlier the rescue teams of Indian Navy and the Coast Guard had recovered six bodies on Saturday, including the five ONGC deputy general managers who perished and one of the pilots. However, this is not officially confirmed.

Indian Navy Rescues Cyclonic Storm Victims in the Sea

Indian Navy's search and rescue operations continued for the third day over Southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep and Minicoy islands in the aftermath of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'OCKHI'. The ships deployed by the Southern Naval Command include IN Ships Sagardhwani, Jamuna, Nireekshak, Kabra and Kalpeni off the Kerala coast and Sharda , Shardul towards Lakshadweep islands. Besides this three air craft viz, Dornier fixed wing aircraft, Seaking Helicopter (SK) and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) were also deployed throughout the day. A total of 84 personnel have been rescued over the last two days which includes 62 by aircrafts and 22 by ships. Additionally, transfer of two dead bodies was also effected through ALH to Thiruvananthapuram after being picked up by INS Sagardhwani.

Cammell Laird Launches Claire House Charity Kite Boat

Merseyside shipyard and engineering company Cammell Laird held a special ceremony to launch a unique kite boat designed to raise funds for charity Claire House Children’s Hospice. The ‘CL Challenger’ was designed by retired shipyard naval architect Bill Owen incorporating a kite as the main power source to propel the vessel. The eco-friendly vessel also generates electric power for radio, lights and GPS through batteries charged via solar panel. It will now be used by a team of intrepid kite surfers for a range of sea-faring challenges to raise vital cash for the Bebington children’s charity.

FreeSpeak II Wireless Systems for UK Navy

Ships Electronic Services Ltd (SES Ltd) has supplied Clear-Com FreeSpeak II digital wireless communication systems to the UK Ministry of Defence for three of its naval vessels, with more in the pipeline. SES Ltd, working with SeaKing Group Ltd, based in the North West of England was tasked with delivering strong, efficient and continuous wireless communication links throughout the vessels. “The MoD required clear communications for its engineers working in engine rooms and machinery spaces,” said Jeff Dixon, Sales Manager at SES Ltd. “This is a challenge faced by many vessel operators who traditionally use magnetic loop, conventional radio or infra-red solutions.

ICG Rescues 20 from MV Jindal Kamakshi

At about 2300 hrs on 21 Jun 15 a container merchant vessel “Jindal Kamakshi” sent a distress alert. The vessel was on passage from Mundra to Kochi with 20 crew members onboard. The vessel was about 35 kms from the nearest coast and 75 kms from Mumbai. The distress was received by Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Mumbai).MRCC (MBI) immediately contacted the master of the vessel. For ascertaining the emergency onboard. MRCC (MBI) also coordinated with other merchant mariners in the vicinity MV SCI, Samudra Prabha, MV Seamac 1 and MV Kamat to render assistance to the distress vessel. In addition, the other Coast Guard ships were also alerted to provide assistance. The vessel under distress was listing 20 deg but the list was subsequently reduced to 10 deg.

SeaKing Bags Mersey Ferries Framework Agreement

Birkenhead based SeaKing Electrical has been appointed to a four-year framework agreement for Mersey Ferries. The maritime firm, which has supported the ferry fleet for many years, has been formally accepted onto the marine engineering consultants framework for Mersey Ferries until 2019. SeaKing Electrical managing director Dave Gillam said the business will offer a complete maintenance and support package for the entire fleet – including the Snowdrop, which was recently repainted in the dazzle design of British pop artist Sir Peter Blake.

SeaKing Electrical Strikes Transatlantic Service Agreement

Merseyside based SeaKing Electrical has secured a transatlantic service agreement with a manufacturer of green technology for the maritime sector. The Birkenhead and Aberdeen business will be supporting Hyde Marine Inc. with its delivery of Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS). Hyde Marine is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., where the company designs and manufactures the Hyde Guardian GoldTM BWTS that combines efficient filtration and Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection of seawater. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Stock Exchange listed Calgon Carbon Corporation (NYSE: CCC). SeaKing managing director Dave Gillam said the “green water” systems are set to play a major role in the global shipping sector.

SeaKing Invests in Sector-specific Training

Merseyside industrial engineering firm SeaKing Electrical said it has undergone a major investment in staff training in a bid to drive growth in the marine, offshore and windfarm sectors. The Birkenhead-based company has invested across a number of areas including offshore survival training and working at heights. Staff have undergone rigorous courses at the Offshore Survival Centre at Blackpool and The Fylde College, which is the only site on the U.K.'s west coast to deliver offshore survival training programs.

Sea Level Marine Completes Majesty of the Seas Project

Miami-based Sea Level Marine, full-service marine refurbishment contractor, completed the renovation of the Boleros mid-ship lounge and Casino Royale aboard the Majesty of the Seas. The project was completed in 22 days, and ahead of schedule, during dry-dock in Freeport, Grand Bahama. For the Majesty renovation, the Sea Level team led an experienced crew of more than 60 craftsmen and technicians in transforming the Majesty's mid-ship Boleros Lounge and Casino Royale. The Boleros project involved revitalizing the room's finishes and furnishings to create the vessel’s new signature Latin theme nightclub. A full service bar recessed into the deck acts as the centerpiece of the new design.
