Airplane Lifejackets Found in Egyptair Search

Aircraft debris was found in the southern Mediterranean by Greek authorities searching for a missing EgyptAir aircraft which vanished from radar screens early Thursday, Greek state tv reported. Earlier, Greek officials said pieces of plastic were found in the sea some 230 miles south of the island of Crete, and two lifevests which appeared to be from an aircraft. Australia: Maritime SAR in Asia Pacific a Priority

Defense force personnel from Australia are in China for Exercise Cooperation Spirit 2014 which begins today. The exercise aims to enhance coordination and cooperation between Australia, China and New Zealand in responding to unforeseen disasters that occur in the Asia-Pacific. This year the exercise is focusing on a maritime search and rescue response involving the Australian Defense Force, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the New Zealand Defense Force. Captain Michael Harris (Royal Australian Navy), Commander of the Australian Contingent, said exercise Cooperation Spirit will enable Australia, China and New Zealand to enhance their ability to work closely together.

AMSA Calls Off Search for Missing Vessel

AMSA’s Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia) said it has suspended the search for a 75-meter fishing support vessel after consulting expert medical advice indicating that in the current weather conditions there is no prospect of survival. An emergency beacon signal was detected by AMSA early on Sunday, March 30, in the Southern Indian Ocean near Antarctica about 3,200 km southwest of Perth and 648 km north of the Antarctic mainland in the Australian Search and Rescue Region. AMSA was unable to contact the vessel, and a broadcast to shipping was issued. The broadcast to shipping remains current, AMSA said, but the nearest vessel in communication with is more than 1,800 kilometers away. Yesterday, AMSA tasked a civil jet and a RAAF P3 Orion to locate the vessel.

Cruise ship 'Orion' made the first Amver rescue of 2013 with the rescue of 56 year old solo sailor from a life raft off the coast of Tasmania. The cruise ship Orion made the first Amver rescue of 2013 in a treacherous rescue off the coast of Tasmania. According to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority , a solo sailor spent 56 hours in a life raft in the Southern Ocean after his yacht was de-masted and hull damaged in rough weather on Friday, January 18, 2013 during a round the world journey.

Ten Rescued in Pacific Fishing Vessel Blaze

The Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System partners, coordinated in the rescue of 10 crewmembers forced to abandon ship due to a shipboard fire 700 miles west of Guam. Coast Guard Sector Guam watchstanders received an initial alert from an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon from the Hsin Man Chun, a 70-foot Taiwanese fishing vessel. Watchstanders then received a call from rescue coordination center Taipei, China reporting that a sister ship of the Hsin Man Chun received a radio call indicating the crew was planning to abandon ship. Tragic Mishap Downs Japanese Trawler

As hopes of finding survivors faded, anguished relatives of the nine Japanese missing after a surfacing U.S. submarine sank their trawler off Hawaii pleaded to have the wreck raised so they could discover if it was the tomb of their loved ones. The request -- also being pushed strongly by the Japanese government -- was forwarded to top U.S. government officials, but a key investigator said he saw no reason at present to recover the 499-ton Ehime Maru from its watery grave 1,800 ft.
