SHIPSWEB Tech for Auxiliary Engine Control

Yanmar Engineering announced the deployment of SHIPSWEB, a tool for management of auxiliary engines on ocean-going vessels. EPA: VGP Will Not be Reissued This Year

The EPA has provided updated advice on the reissuance of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Vessel General Permit (VGP).The 2013 VGP will not be reissued prior to its December 18, 2018 expiration date, but will be administratively continued and remain in effect until a new permit is issued. Owners/operators of vessels operating under the administratively continued permit are expected to comply with the terms and conditions of that permit. EPA stands ready to assist those applying for VGP and will continue its work on reissuing the permit, with a targeted timeframe of permit proposal in spring 2019.For vessels covered by the permit as of December 18, 2018: Coverage will continue.

School of Shipping, INTTRA Team up to Enhance Students' Readiness

South Africa-based School of Shipping, which offers adults an education in maritime studies specifically relating to importing and exporting, and INTTRA, the world's ocean shipping electronic marketplace, announced a collaboration through which School of Shipping students will make use of INTTRA's training environment as part of their coursework. Students will be able to simulate shipment management for the ocean stages of container transport. That process includes planning container bookings through Ocean Schedules (INTTRA's search tool to identify sailings), executing bookings, submitting shipping instructions and container weight information for SOLAS VGM compliance, tracking containers and a range of other functions.
